Subject: MTV and Duran Duran in the 80's
I am graduate student at a university doing a project on Duran Duran in the 1980s and MTV. I would to know what effects Duran Duran had on you and if they influenced you as a person and how. I would also like to know who was your favorite member and how he influenced you from the way dressed to the way you conducted yourself and made any decisions in life. I would also like to know if you saw them in concert in the 1980s and what was your experience.

I was 12 the first time I heard Duran Duran and fell in love with their style, both the music and the fashion. I started out liking Nick the best, but as he got more feminine looking, it turned me off. From then on it was John for me. Those eyes and high cheekbones and that smile... I could go on and on, lol. I always wanted to dye my hair and wear my hair like his, but Mom and Dad would never go for it, I had old fashioned parents. But there were always clothes to mimic.
I saw them in concert twice in the 80's, 87 an 89. I saw them again in 1994. The 1987 show was the best because of all the props and imagery used in the show. The later two were a little more subdued.
The best thing about Duran Duran is that with every new album, they evolved. Nothing ever sounded the same, which was rare in the 80's. There is a song for just about every mood you could be in.
As for influencing my life, I guess being a fan of theirs was daring to say the least. You took alot of ridicule from people who were not "Duranies". I learned to stick to my guns and stand up for what I believed in and enjoyed, no matter what anyone thought of me. No peer pressure problems for me!
I hope this helps you with your project. I must say, I feel really old cuz my "culture" is now subject for college studies!
