Subject: Name This Tune! (PLEASE!)
This is my first time to this site, and in reading the past week's postings, I have come to the conclusion that you all are awesome!
I've tried to go through the postings and help where I could; but it seems I'm much better at 80's television than music. Since so many of you seem to be masters of 80's music, maybe someone here can help me with a song I've been trying to find for years now...
I don't know the artist or title; just some of the lyrics. Here goes:
"Baby, baby
When you take me out strollin'
You've got me rockin'
When I oughta be a rollin'"
Then the chorus is sorta gibberish:
"A-ha-ha-ha
Hey-O
A-duba-duba-duba-duba
A-ha-ha-ha
A-ha-ha-ha
Hey-O"
Verse 2:
"Baby, Baby
You oughta be in heaven (or something close to that)
You've got me pushin'
When I oughta be a shovin'..."
The song was out in about '87 or '88 I think, because I seem to remember being in Jr. High at the time.
If anyone can help, I will be eternally grateful! This has been driving me (and therefore everyone around me, because I keep asking) nuts for years. I even told all my friends that the only thing I want for my birthday next week is a copy of this song! Can YOU make a girl's only birthday wish come true? THANX!

It is "Rover" by Led Zeppelin off their album Physical Graffiti from '75. If the song you heard came out in '87 or '88, it could be a cover.
Hope this helps.

I seem to remember a cover version of Stairway from about that time period. I want to say the band was Black Dog, but I'm not sure of this. Anyway, it's possible they could have covered Rover as well.

The cover of LZ's "Stairway to Heaven" that you're thinking of was a minor hit here in the U.S. in the Fall of '86 for the band Far Corporation. It was off their 1986 album, "Division One". Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. I have the cassette myself...
Incidentally, Far Corporation was assembled by none other than Frank Farian, who later created the infamous Milli Vanilli! Three members of Toto participated in Far Corporation, including lead singer Bobby Kimball. Since LZ's original recording of "Stairway to Heaven" was never released as a commercial single here in the U.S., Far Corporation's cover is the only version of that song to ever make the charts...
Yeah, I never said anything, but I always knew what your "Wicked Lester" reference meant! I guess I read and hear about it so much, that I consider it "common musical knowledge". KISS definitely rules! Saw 'em live for the first time on the "Psycho Circus" tour. Even have a first pressing of their 1974 s/t debut w/o "Kissin' Time" on 8-track...

Thanks for the info on the Stairway cover. I don't know why Black Dog kept popping into my head as the band...
As for KISS, they put on the best live show that I have ever been witness to. I saw them for the first time back in 78 or 79 when I was in Jr. High, and have been to 7 of their concerts total. The best is still the first though AC/DC does a good job live as well, and I'll be seeing them in Memphis next month.
I guess more people than I might realize are aware of the Wicked Lester reference and just don't bring it up. Afterall, EVERYBODY is a KISS fan, right

Having the wide taste in '70s and '80s music that I do, I've seen everyone from Air Supply to Cheap Trick to Melissa Manchester to Billy Joel to Rick Springfield to Laura Branigan to "Weird Al" Yankovic to Garth Brooks to Sarah McLachlan to Kansas to Pat Benatar to yes, even AC/DC in concert (and all of those just within the last five years!). So it's really kinda hard to judge who's live show was "best" - in fact, I can honestly say that I've been to only a couple of concerts that didn't live up to expectations. But when it comes to heavy metal acts, of the ones I've seen, yeah, I gotta agree that the KISS show I caught at Madison Square Garden in NYC on the "Psycho Circus" tour back in '98 was the best!
You must have a few years on me! I was only 12 when KISS' original line-up split in 1980, so I was a little young to catch them live back in those days. Besides, it wasn't until 1983 and the "Lick it Up" album that I became a KISS fan, and first started buying their music. Never had too much desire to see 'em live back in the '80s or early '90s, but when I heard the original line-up was reuniting for "Psycho Circus", and that they were going to tour behind it (complete w/ make-up and costumes, etc.), I knew it would be a must-see! Happy to say, I wasn't disappointed. Just wish the original members could keep it together, and continue to record new music, but I guess that ain't gonna happen...
As mentioned above, I've also seen AC/DC live once, and by coincidence, that was also at MSG. It was on the "Ballbreaker" tour, back in '96. Great show, too. Oh yeah, and they sure play loud...
