Subject: Journey:Behind The Music
It's official!!! next Sunday, VH1 will finally aired one of most popular, successful, talented & loved bands of the '70s & 80's: Journey. VH1 has finally come to their senses to this BTM on this group. This will featured former lead singer Steve Perry's first tv interview in 15yrs. We'll find out how he joined the band, the magic of his time there & why he left the band. They've been loved by fans & hated by critics and their catalog of hits will make critics cringe: "Wheel In The Sky", "Lights", "Feeling That Way"/"Anytime", "Lovin', Touchin' Squeezin'"/"City of The Angels", "Who's Cryin' Now", "Don't Stop Believin'", "Open Arms", "Still They Ride", "Seperate Ways(Worlds Apart)", "Faithfully", "Chain Reaction", "Send Her My Love", "Be Good To Yourself", "Girl Can't Help It", "Message Of Love" "When You Love A Woman" to name a few. What do you think? Opinions please.

I'm interested to see just what Steve Perry has been up to. He vanished after the 1987 tour, until his solo "for the love of strange medicine" tour in 1994 (which was awesome!) That success prompted "trial by fire" which was doing very well for an "80s band" in the 90s. Then whoosh Perry vanished again. Rumors abound... I wonder if they're pissed at him (the Styx vs Dennis Deyoung BTM was viscious)? I saw Journey with Steve Augeri on the "Vacations over" tour and it just wasn't the same. Journey is just not Journey w/out Perry. I'm a big fan, but really not looking forward to, and probably won't buy the "new" Journey album.

It's about time; Journey is one of the premiere bands of their era. Even after all this time, few songs rock the way Seperate Ways does.

Very true. I have a feeling it probably took so long for VH-1 to finally put together a "BTM" episode on Journey due to the fact that there have been so many different (yet crucial) members in the group over the years. Getting all of the necessary info & interviews no doubt took time. (Of course, the fact that they're due to release their first studio album, titled "Arrival", w/ new lead singer Steve Augeri in the near future doesn't hurt - and that's no small coincidence, mind you!) I don't think it's supposed to be a special 90-minute episode (a la Madonna, Cher, etc.), but it deserves to be - there is so much to tell, I can't see how VH-1 could possibly give viewers the complete picture on Journey in just one hour...

I'll second that...

Could someone email me the answer to this? Neil Schon started a 'supergroup' in the 80's. I think the song was 'Rhythm In A Red Dress'??? I really need the group. THanks so much!!!

After doing some additional research, it turns out the correct title of the song you seek was actually "Rhythm from a Red Car". It was recorded by Schon's early '90s band, Hardline. (Not sure they necessarily qualified as a "supergroup", though.) The song was off the group's lone album, 1992's "Double Eclipse". While "Rhythm from a Red Car" was neither a pop or AOR hit here in the U.S., the album did include two other moderate AOR hits, "Takin' Me Down" and (as Andrew noted) "Hot Cherie". Fortunately, the album is still in print on CD here in the U.S. I had failed to look up Hardline before my original post since they were from the '90s, not the '80s...

You have a few choices w/ Schon, as far as the '80s go. First he recorded a couple of albums w/ Jan Hammer, "Untold Passion" (1981) and "Here to Stay" (1983). He then joined "supergroup" Hagar, Schon, Aaronson, Shrieve (a.k.a. "HSAS"), which released one album, 1984's "Through the Fire". That was of course followed by his membership in the "supergroup" Bad English, which also put out two albums, "Bad English" (1989) and "Backlash" (1991). Schon also released a solo album at the very end of the decade, "Late Nite" (1989).
Unfortunately, NONE of the six albums named above include a song titled "Rhythm in a Red Dress" (or anything even remotely close to that), so either you've got the title wrong, or it was someone other than Neal Schon. If it's the former, my hunch is you're thinking of HSAS...

Don't forget about another 'unforgettable' Neal Schon supergroup Hardline. they had a 'hit" w/ Hot Cherie.

Very true. I didn't forget Hardline - it's just that I only took the time to research Schon's '80s work, since Carmen had said the band was from that decade. (Hardline wasn't actually formed until the early '90s. And then there was his late '90s band, Abraxas Pool, not to mention additional solo albums!) I'll admit I don't have the group's 1992 album, "Double Eclipse", at this time, but I've heard rave reviews from several sources - I guess it's about time I picked it up! Anyway, thanks to your post, I decided to do a little more checking, and it turns out the band Carmen wanted was, in fact, Hardline...
