Subject: Tiffany

Written By: Andrew on 1/15/2001 at 8:11 p.m.

I know this day in age, we're not supposed to like Tiffany apparantely, but I can't help it. I've been playing "Feelings Of Forever" immensely lately, and I just can't get enough of her voice and her music. It's unbelievable. If people can just get passed the obvious success of "I Think We're Alone Now", and heard her incredible ballads , their opinions would change incredibly. She's certainly my biggest guilty pleasure, but a good guilty pleasure. Is anyone else on here addicted to Tiffany?

I've always had an open mind when it comes to listening to music, regardless of the artist's past or how "hip" they may or may not be - Tiffany included. But when she first made it big back in the late '80s/early '90s, I didn't care for her. Simple as that - despite my wide taste in music (I own about 10,000 albums), it wasn't my type of stuff. So I passed on all three of her albums ("Tiffany", "Hold an Old Friend's Hand", and "New Inside"). Didn't even bother w/ her 1996 "Greatest Hits" collection, either...

Then last year, I began hearing that she was going to be attempting a "comeback", which admittedly piqued my interest. Of course, last Fall, VH-1 then dedicated an entire episode of "Behind the Music" to her, which included brief snippets of several songs that were going to be included on that yet-to-be-released new album, titled "The Color of Silence". After hearing those new songs on "BtM", I was most impressed, and genuinely interested in getting my hands on her new CD! There was even an article in "Billboard" magazine at the time, which gave "The Color of Silence" rave reviews, and compared it to Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill" (not that I'm a huge Alanis fan). So when it finally came out several weeks later, I admit I ran out and bought it - something I VERY rarely do w/ current music anymore! (Unfortunately, the CD is a bit tough to find, as it's on a tiny independent label, Eureka.)

But I must say, the album didn't disappoint! She actually rocks! The lead track, "Open My Eyes", was easily one of the best songs of 2000, and in a perfect world, deserves to be a top 10 hit! Awesome tune - I've been playing that one over and over ever since. The CD's lead single, "I'm Not Sleeping", is darn good, too, although it contains a slightly annoying and obligatory rap contribution from Krayzie Bone. (The rest of the album is, thankfully, rap-free!) "The Color of Silence" will definitely change your mind about Tiffany - she even co-wrote a good chunk of the songs herself. Highly recommended. I just might break down and actually buy "Greatest Hits" now...

You can learn more about the new CD over at her official web site. I've provided a link below - check it out!
