There is club 80s in Hollywood. They are on sunset inside a place called the ruby. It is at 7070 Hollywood blvd. 323-467-7070 They usually have an ad in the LA Weekly.
I have to say that I went once and although there was alot of 80s music going on, no-one really dressed 80s and they were letting people smoke in there so it wasn't the best atmosphere. Check it out though, maybe you'll dig it.

You might want to check out the San Diego clubs in the Gas Lamp District. I can't remember specific names, but anyways even if they don't play your fave New Wave - the club scene looks a lot more "cleaner" and fun than the overrated LA and OC clubs.
You could also try Papas & Beer in Rosarito, Mexico. Last time I was there (like two weeks ago) the whole night was New Wave and synth-pop. The crowd was a little more...lively...and crazy - a little seedier than back home.
Unfortunately, I have yet to hear of an 80s night here in SoCal, but searching for one is just as fun...

Geez, you're sure bringin' back some '80s memories for me, TB! Although I currently live in the NYC area, I'm Cali-born & bred, and lived in SoCal throughout the '80s. My HS and college years were spent living on the coast just north of SD (near I-5), and from about 1986-89, my friends & I would trek down across the border to the clubs in TJ, etc. You're right, the clubs in SD are pretty good (or at least they were back then). Ah, I miss SD...

I'm no help to the original question, I just had to thank Teresa for the mention of the bar I go home to.
Actually, now I think of it, there's a club on Santa Monica and about Robertson called Door 3 or 3rd Door Down or something like that. Upstairs on Thursdays they have an 80's night. Very Madonna and Wham, not so much synth. Dollar margaritas before ten, which makes the rather snotty crowd a little more bearable.
