: but what color dress should I wear???? > Karen I was Pippi one year when I was about 14..I wore a patchwork babydoll dress..it worked great! And dont forget some old-fashioned style bloomers underneath (shortie length)! I used a re-shaped wire clothes hanger to stick out the pigtails on my wig...

Karen, I hope you ignore this Mr. Happy dork. He's rude to make such a suggestion. Most of us on this board are not like that at all.
To answer your question, I searched the web and it seems to depend on which film version you saw, or if you looked at the animated film.
In the 1970's version it was either and orange or yellow-ey beige jumper, either striped or checked. (the quality of the photos left a bit to be desired.) The jumper(sleeveless dress) was worn over an olive-green Henley-type shirt, which was too big. Some of the pictures showed Pippi's dress patched. The tighs, or stockings were two different colors. At least one had horizontal stripes (much like the Wicked Witch of the East in Wizard of Oz.) The colors varied by which website I visited, but as long as the legs are mis-matched I think most people will get the reference.
BTW, how are you going to get your hair to stick out at righ angles? Florist's wire? Don't forget the freckles and pet monkey, and have a good time on Halloween!!
