Subject: Highway Child?
I heard this song once on the radio sometime in 1986 or 87, and I loved it, but somehow never got around to buying it. (I think) the song was called "Christine", and if I heard the radio announcer correctly, the band was called "Highway Child." The only lyrics I can remember are, "She'll make you scream...Christine, my little queen of dreams..." It was sort of hard rock/heavy metal, and I'd love to know where I could get it on CD or cassette. I've looked everywhere, but can't find anything at all by the right "Highway Child" (there are other bands of different genres with that name) much less can I find that particular song. I've looked for what seems like forever, but no one's ever even heard of it. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me. I was driving back from a date with my (late) husband when I heard it, so it's sort of a "sentimental thing" for me.

This is just a stab in the dark, but the band you actually heard on the radio back around 1986 was probably Highway Chile, not "Child". They were a hard rock/heavy metal band from The Netherlands, and released several albums during the early to mid '80s. Although I could not find a track listing, "Christine" would've been off their 1985 album, "Rockarama". Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. (In this country, "Rockarama" was released only on vinyl LP and cassette. The album does exist on CD as an import, though.)
One thing is certain: Assuming you have the title right, no songs by the name of "Christine", "Cristine", or "Kristine" cracked either the pop or AOR charts here in the U.S. during the '80s, so the song you're searching for was a very minor (or regional) hit, at best. And Highway Chile failed to ever reach both the singles and albums charts Stateside, so they quickly faded away...

Good call 80smusicfreak, I found the track list to "Rockarama" and "Christine" is indeed on it.

Hi. Your "stab in the dark" sounds quite reasonable, and at least now I know I'm not delusional--that the band did exist. They never made the charts in the US, but I'm from Eastern Canada, and that's where I was living then. Maybe I'll never find it, but at least now I have a better idea of what to look for, and one never knows; perhaps I WILL find it. Thanks for your reply--much appreciated!
