Subject: What's everybody's favorite '80s compilations?

Written By: Andrew on 7/30/2000 at 10:28 p.m.

I've just decided about three weeks ago that I'm starting an '80s collection. I'm obsessed with those "As Seen On TV" compilations. I already have Cool Rock, Monster Ballads, Red Hot, Party Zone, and Poplife. Those are probably my favorite. I also LOVE the Billboard Top Hits compilations. They have them from 1955-1995. I love those!!!! My hobby is basically searching cdnow.com for good '80s compilations. Since I'm starting a collection now, I've gotta do some searching. What do you guys think of the Billboard compilations? How 'bout the "As Seen On TV" compilations? Tell me your favorite compilations.

Actually, my favorite 80's compilation came out in the 80's. It's called "Number One On The Streets" and has over 90 minutes of extended mixes of songs by Shannon, Heaven 17, Eddy Grant, Thompson Twins etc. I have it on cassette & it's very worn out. I saw it on vinyl in a used record store outside of Charleston SC and was stupid and didn't pick it up (I had to have a sought-after copy of the 12" of DOA's "That's The Way (I Like It)" instead). I don't know if this was ever released on CD but it was a great comp. "Just Say Yes" is a pretty good comp also and is my favorite of the "Just Say..." series.

Check out the soundtracks from the movies Say Anything, Back To School or Pretty in Pink. Good lineups for 80's bands.

Living in Oblivion is good, as most others have stated, but my personal favorite (right now anyway - ask again next week and you'll get a different answer )is This Ain't No Disco, which is a collection of new wave dance tunes. Tracks follow:
1) Der Kommissar - After the Fire
2) Favorite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl) -Haircut 100
3) 99 Luftballoons - Nena
4) Lies - Thompson Twins
5) A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing)- Romeo Void
6) Volume - Pylon
7) I Melt With You - Modern English
Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant
9) You Spin Me 'Round (Like a Record) - Dead or Alive
10) Computer Games - Mi-Sex
11) Sleepwalk - Ultravox
12) Party at Ground Zero - Fishbone

Another good set of 80s compilations (sort of) are the Wedding Singer soundtracks. They have all kinds of good songs on them. (Although M.O.R is still my fave)
