It seems some radio stations got it goin' on playing cool and sometimes not so cool 80's music. The point is that it is getting played and THAT is definitely a good thing. What may not be so cool to us, may be cool to someone else!
In way too many areas though, the sounds of the 80's are not receiving air play. If they do by some miracle, it is a Friday or Saturday night special for a couple of hours once in a blue moon. AND then, it is usually the same old top 20 songs that were overplayed then. Do you agree or disagree that there are hundreds of songs that were not necessarily on the top of the charts, but were pretty darn good????????? Do you not wish they got some air play? Even some of those areas that are fortunate enough to have the radio stations that play 80's stuff may have an opinion on this issue. It would be interesting to discuss, I think. Peace everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do agree that a lot of good stuff is never played. Z106 has the 80s at 8 every night, but it's usually the same songs and artists: Cars, Van Halen, AC/DC, John Mellencamp, Crüe, ZZ Top, Cinderella, Aerosmith etc. I was into Hüsker Dü, English Beat, Aztec Camera, Bodeans, Charlatans UK and a lot of other stuff along those lines, and I never hear any of it on the radio. I like hearing 80s music, but some variety would be nice. I've probably heard Legs and Sharp Dressed Man at least a couple dozen times this year, but I can't remember when the last time was that I heard Love Is Like a Rock by Donnie Iris, or Doctor and the Medics remake of Spirit in the Sky.

Lester, Lester, Lester. A man after my own ear.
KROQ 106.7 has alternative 80's from 1:00 to 2:00 on weekdays. Richard Blade retired and went off to scuba dive or something so you won't have to listen to his nearly tangible smarminess. Nina Hagen and Shriekback have been heard, "Bela Lugosi's (still) dead" and, yes, "Spirit in the Sky". I'm eternally hunting for the Euro-trash I fell in love with in the clubs, but "flashbacks" keep me goin'. (Gawd it hurts when they use the word, "oldy" in reference to the stuff I'm still listening to. I have too many earrings to be old.)

So I type. I turn on my radio. It's 1:00. I hear no retro 80's music. Ask me not what the dilly-yo is, I only know something changed and I was not informed. Of course, it occurs to me that if you don't live in SoCal, none of this matters none nohow. My head hangs in shame.
