Subject: taglines.. any ideas for the site?
I'm starting to read a book about building Communities on the Web (by Amy Jo Kim for those interested) and I just hit a small section about coming up with a tagline for what it is you do.. I also read a small article a week or two ago, stating you should be able to come up with a one or two sentence description of what you do..
so.. um.. any ideas about what it is I do here?
or how about a catchy catch phrase?
"Bringing the 80s back"
"The 80s kicked ass man! The 80s never die!"
"Preserving 80s culture, one page at a time"
"Remember Ishtar, or we will be doomed to repeat it"

Here's my two cents worth...
"Celebrating the 20th century's greatest decade, the 80's!"
"Keeping the 80's alive!"
"The greatest decade lives on!"
"The 80's, the best in music, fashion and fun!"
Shouldn't we 80's fanatics have a nickname? You know, like Dead Heads or Parrot Heads. What should we call ourselves?
Thanks for this site Chuck, it's awesome!

that's a good mission statement actually.. I should do a pseudo mission statement, like a real company.. that would be fun!

that's an excellent question.. I generally call myself a pop culture historian, but then again, I run three sites dealing with Pop Culture history..

Um, since you're in MA, wouldn't something like "'wicked' good" be more appropriate, ChuckyG?!? LOL! Okay, my gf is a New Englander, too, and I swear, I'd never heard that expression before I started dating her. (I was born & raised in Cali.) "Noo Yawkuhs" say "mint"...

well, if you ever need to understand what's she saying, make sure to check out my worcestermass site, though I'm assuming you already have.. actually.. we're already on it, since I never moved the messageboard when I moved the 80s site out from under that domain..
all I can think of when I think of the phrase "wicked good" is Adam Sandler, another Mass. native, on Saturday Night Live, doing a game show sketch in which him, Phil Hartman, and someone else were competing to name the best way to get somewhere "How do you get there" and he won the prize, and he exclaims, "That's wicked good"
of course the funniest part of that sketch is Phil's answer "You can't get there from here", or when asked how to get to Roxbury "Why would you want to go there?" I wish I could catch that sketch when it's on so I could tape it.. I need a transcript for the Worcester (woostah) site..

mint was actually more widespread than just the northeast region in the 80s.. I could have sworn wicked was too for a brief while.. though "wicked" is still quite widespread..
I had a girlfriend from Texas who "cured me" of my accent to some degree.. I "almost" pronounce the r's at the end of my words, and I stopped using "ain't".. wicked though.. that one refuses to disappear..
