Subject: 80's Radio Revisionism?

Written By: Andrew Ridgely on 7/5/2000 at 12:08 p.m.

As I was listening to the 80's radio station, it occurred to me-there seems to be a tide of 80's music revisonism! Some groups that were huge don't get much airplay, while some that are obscure get tons! I haven't heard any Micheal Jackson songs on the "80's" radio station at all, Duran Duran doesn't play much at all...some groups are ignored except one song...Wham only gets "Careless Whisper" played. It's like they conveniently ignore those that aren't in modern favor. What does everyone else think, and what else have you noticed?

I think oldies stations are the same way. They just play the same songs over and over again. I actually remember the 1960's, which most of you posters think is ancient history! I remember a lot of the 1960's stuff that they hardly play on oldies stations, and when such a song is played, I say, "I haven't heard that in a long time!"

one of my friends used to refer to the Beatles red and blue greatest hits albums as the "AM Radio Playlists" during the 80s.. and hour couldn't go by in which one of the songs of either album were played..

and considering most of my favorite Beatles tunes aren't on those albums.. I thought it was a pretty appropriate assesment
