Subject: Mystery Girl -- A New Idea to ID
Well, still no success here identifying the Lou Gramm sounding "Mystery Girl" song taped off the radio in the 80's...lyrics servers, usenet groups, other 80's afficionados, local radio station DJ's...lots of "sounds familiar", but that's all...so, a new idea...I'll repost the lyrics I can hear at the end of this post, but would anyone be interested in having me send them a cassette copy of the song? Maybe actually hearing it would help...or maybe someone here knows someone with an encyclopedic recollection of EVERY SONG recorded in the 80's, and maybe THEY'D recognize it! Well, once again, any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
She knows everything, Knows that everything in every .... Every heart you've broken, every girl you've made cry She's gonna balance the scale tonight
I'll call it revenge, she's the master of disguise, Everything you've ever wanted she can be in your eyes, and when you fall for her hopelessly, She'll disappear like a mystery
Look out around the world Watch out for the mystery girl You boys walking with your flags unfurled They'll be at half mast for the mystery girl.
She slips into the shadows with her burning blue eyes She whispers something as she tells you your own lies She tells you she's lonely like you always do She knows your game and plays it better than you So get ready for love, get ready for pain, Get ready for the one girl who can put you away, You'll soon discover that the mystery, What sleeping beauty that you let go free.
Look out around the world, watch out for the mystery girl, etc.

I do believe that is Roy Orbison. His popularity swelled in the mid-80s after his song "In Dreams" appeared in the wildly popular movie "Blue Velvet" back in 1986. Hope this helps you out!
Peace,

Laura, thanks for trying to help...unfortunately, the Roy Orbison song "Mystery Girl" is a wonderful song, but it's not this one...the Orbison tune is sort of ballad-like, very soft...this is a classic 80's "hair band" sort of affair...and so, the search shall continue...I've got to believe SOMEBODY will know what this song is!!! I have it on tape, it's real!! LOL!!!!
