Subject: 1980's band ID search

Written By: J. Wagner on 6/10/2000 at 2:31 p.m.

there was an electronic song that appeared i believe 1983 or possibly early 84-something about a "White Horse". someone told me at time it was an anti-drug thing-can't remember more. lyrics ran in part,"...don't ride the White horse.." and something like,"..rich..you got to be rich..." and so forth. it was one of the first obviously electronicly made things i ever heard on the radio. who did that thing? i want to buy a vinyl album with that song on it. i've asked everyone i know and no one can come up with the artist's name.

The song "White horse" is by Laid Back from the 1984 album Keep Smiling. It has the line "If you want to be rich..you got to be a bi*ch..." It was an anti-drug riff. This was big with the break-dance croud at the teen clubs.

The song is "White Lines (Don't Do It)" by Grandmaster Flash with the Furious Five featuring Melle Mel. I don't know about vinyl but you can get it on Millenium Hip Hop Party. It's one of those compilation CD's that are all the rage right now...all hip hop CD.
