Subject: Songs that define the class of '99

Written By: Shannon Ellison on 5/18/1999 at 9:47 p.m.

I am graduating as valedictorian of my class and must give a speech at our graduation ceremonies. I wanted to do something neat, so I decided to include songs of my lifetime to characterize the class of '99. I need advice on top songs that would fit this occasion and songs my fellow classmates would recognize. I am really looking for about three or four songs (exerpts from each) to use. The dates may range from 1980 to 1995. If you have any suggestions please write me a.s.a.p. I graduate May 28!

How about "Turn the Page" by Bob Segar? You could also use any of the following: "Eternal Flame" by the Bengals, "Best times of your lives" by Green Day -- may want to check the year..., "1999" by Prince (kind of a given).

You can use Billy Joel's "My Life" great song for grads!!!

Toad the Wet Sprocket's "Walk on the Ocean" is good- 'we said we'd write letters and all of those little things'-- people never write after high school.

Anything by Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Wilson Phillps, Paula Abdul, Michael Jackson and Madonna will do for songs you grew up with.

use C&C music factory's Everybody Dance NOW!! and things that make you go hmmmm...

some stuff that might not be good for school, but you know you listened to it anyway:

Snoop Dog's gin and juice Billy Ray Cyrus' Achy Breaky Heart. If I Ever Fall In Love Again - Shai no diggity- blackstreet The Heights-How Do You Talk To An Angel? Summertime by Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith)

If you need anymore I'll be happy to help, but those are some good ones I think. I just graduated in 97 so we kinda listened to the same stuff

Well, there's always Clinton's favorite, "Don't Stop," by Fleetwood Mac. Good looking-ahead-to-the-future song. That's the only one that comes to mind as inspirational...
