Subject: TO ALL 80's FANS! MY URGENT MESSAGE
Hello board! I just found this board today after weeks of finding the right 80's spot.
I was born in 1979 and grew up in the 80'. There is not even one song from the 80's that I don't like.
I love all music since I am a performer and a student of music production and performance.
I sing lots of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac stuff..
My heart is with the 80's..I lost a great 80's performer, dear INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence in November.
That decade seemed so calm and cool, the music was simple, there was no cussing or gang threats in songs,etc..
I am a gigantic fan of Culture Club and Boy George-their reunion is Heaven to me!
Excuse my language, but I am so damn tired of MTV now..I mean, I watch it cause, as I said, I love all music, but
I find myself wanting to revert back to Martha Quinn, Adam Curry, Nina Blackwood, JJ Jackson, etc...where Dial MTV was cool, as
was the Half Hour Comedy Hour. I want to stand aside Sting, Billy Idol, etc and yell, "I WANT MY MTV!!!"
I want to go back to where it was videos 24/7, not just an hour a day. The music wasn't put into categories like MTV Jams, Alternative Nation,
etc...I think that is a big reason I find myself breaking away from most of the people my age and tuning into VH-1, where 80's music seems to have a home;
not just a spot on "It Came From the 80's" on a special weekend MTV has when they have run out of Real World and Road Rules episodes to
show in a marathon!
I may have been only 4 when Falco rocked "Amadeus" or five years old when Boy George sang "Time (Clock of the Heart).
I have a great boyfriend whom I love, but he and I differ in the fact that he dislikes Boy George-why? Cause he is different and wears makeup.
Most of today's society can't except that cause it was almost taboo in the 80's..But, for God's sake, Motley Crue, Kiss, etc wore makeup and they were strictly ladies men.
The 80's were of androgony and angst, not violence or gang rape! I am open minded and can listen to any type of music,
but take me back to my 80's....Anyone who feels the same, please respons to my message or e-mail me at tygerlily_19@yahoo.com...

Hey...I was born in '79, too!! I am so happy to see people of my generation loving the '80s as much as I do! Man...wouldn't it be cool if there were a real-life DeLorean time machine that could take us back to those heady times of fun and excess--otherwise known as the '80s? Here's my perfect trip back--it's 1984, and I'm 17. I go see Duran Duran live on their "Sing Blue Silver" tour and go to a club to witness Metallica break out. I buy the B-52's and Culture Club, and view the 1st MTV Video Music Awards. I then turn around and witness 1985 come into fruition, as I stay up to watch Live Aid and go see Power Station live. I then go out to buy Arcadia and Mr. Mister, and go to the mall often! I watch "The Breakfast Club" on the big screen, at least ten times. I wear lip gloss and lots of pink and white, and don't feel a bit ashamed because of it. I fall in love with the Psychedelic Furs and New Order, and get into the whole "college rock" thing just in time for me to hit college. I major in computer science and experience the ancestors of the Internet with some of my fellow colleagues. We go together to see Van Halen (with my personal favorite leader, Sammy Hagar), and watch Ratt's "Round and Round" video over and over again. We listen to all sorts of music. Um...hold on...I'm getting carried away here. But, wouldn't it be cool to have been an '80s teen? *sigh* If only....

Diane~
I know the words to the Breakfast Club cause I have seen that movie like 200 times or something..
I loved Duran Duran and Arcadia, Live Aid, Power Station,etc...
I saw Van Halen in 95-the last tour with Hagar! I won't listen to the "new"
Van Halen cause Sammy is a personal fave as well.
Every single thing you wrote sounds perfect! Hey, let's travel back in time more often..
Only if you let me have Nick Rhodes ;)

Thanks Retroraider!! I am glad that someone feels the same as I do on 80's music!
Maybe if a bunch of us could come forth, MTV would be back to what it was..Oh, excuse me, was I dreaming??

wow! finally! would you be my best friend?......j/k....i totally agree with you. i mean, i'm 17 and grew up listening to 80's music (thanks to my aunt!). i am also very open-minded about music....however, there aren't as many songs that i like from the 90's as opposed to the 80's where 99% of the music was good.... my friends think i'm weird,insane,etc...i love almost anything from the 80's....my aunt still gives me 80's records now and then and i still have some music videos on tape along with that special they did on culture club on VH1....so to get to my point....you're not alone....
