Subject: Is there something I should be doing on the web page that I'm not?

Written By: ChuckyG on 7/24/1998 at 8:04 p.m.

Since I've moved to the new site, my hits trailed way off. I know some of that is due to the move, and more of it is probably due to not having many pages listed in the search engines (and a lot of links from people I can't track down).

I'm just wondering if I do enough to make people want to come back? I've added almost a hundred pages in the last two months, but are they pages you would find interesting? I'd love to hear any ideas people have.

I think you're doing just fine, Chuck. I noticed that Yahoo had you prominently displayed on their search engine, but had the wrong address and I wonder if the other engines have done the same. (I'm pretty much a newbie, so I don't really know if that's the case but it makes sense to me.) By the wrong address, I mean the old address. But the content is great and keep up the good work! (Especially as long as you keep printing my album reviews!)

Oh, by the way I have a correct link to this page on my website so there's a whole three more visitors. Talk about no hits. I can relate.

Hang in there!

Actually, I think that if you're listed on Yahoo! you can change the URL you're listed under...that's what the Lizard King did when he moved his Duran Duran site from an AOL-hosted page to his own URL.

Same here! I've had my Tales of a City site open since November 1997, have advertised the bejesus out of it, and still have only about 1,000 hits to show for it. I even have a bloody message board too, and try to keep up conversations on it, but it doesn't work. :(

: Hang in there!

Ah...since I see others have the same problem I do, I feel so much better. Thanks, Retroraider!

Diane/CityGirl7609 (so much posting from the first day...*giggle*)

p.s.: Chucky, I think your page rocks! You don't need to do anything to it--except maintain the daylights outta that "Top Ten" section, because nothing irritates a guest more than an interactive section that doesn't get updated often...especially if that guest has submitted something. That's the only thing I can think of, though.

actually I do maintain that pretty frequently, but for some reason I've only received one new list in the last three weeks or so.. so you can see why I'm a bit miffed at the search engines...
