I've been trying to find this song for so long and I
can't seem to get the artist & title right, so hopefully
someone can help me! I've been told that Matthew Sweet
sings it, but I can't find it on any of his CD's,
and that could be because I don't have the right title.
Anyway, I thought it was called "Bad Reputation", and
the lyrics that I think I know go like this:

You heard I have a bad reputation
and it isn't just talk, talk, talk,
(then there's something in here about
giving "everything that I haven't got")

some part I don't remember, then then
the only part of the chorus I do remember:

Suddenly I'm on the Street
Seven years disappeared below my feet,
Do you want me now,
Do you want me now?

then it's back to this:
I couldn't have one conversation,
if it wasn't for lies, lies, lies,

If anyone can tell me who sings this,
what it's called, and what CD it's on,
I would be soooo grateful!

It IS "Bad Reputation", and it's by Freedy Johnson (or Johnston). It's a '90s release...I think it was released sometime around '94-'95...I do remember watching the sepia-toned video on "Alternative Nation" around the same time Green Day broke out, though. So you were correct about the song title. As for its '80s-ness...I think Freedy Johnson/Johnston was a club singer/songwriter in the '80s...and his stuff is sometimes so amazing you can't believe it's from the '90s.

As for CD title...you may want to go looking at musicblvd.com to look for the CD. It's a mid-'90s release, remember, and the guy's first name is Freedy.
