Subject: Star Hits....Duran Duran....Leg warmers, yes, those were the days!
Omigosh I was just surfing around and I found this
site..Star Hits I remember scrounging money to
buy it whenever it came out only to have to decide
between SH.Bop,16 and all the others(I always
liked Star Hits best though because it was like Smash
nits but you didn't have to pay $5 for it(cos it was an import)
Being a Duranie I tended to like Duran and pretty
much moone else(tho after a while I started liking
Culture Club and Spandau Ballet a bit)But what rank
led me was Menudo...They were like a Puerto Rican
version of Duran Duran except they were half as
talented...but if they were so popular why didn't I know anyone that liked them?I went to a school with
a large Latino population and none of my Latino frie
nds liked them they were into other stuff.Menudo
disappeared for a while but recently I saw an ad on
TV for a concert in my area..everything 80's is back
again..I remember so much of what went on..I was
at school when Reagan got shot and I was one of
many people that were gathered around a TV watchi
ng the coverage..and the day that the Challenger
blew up I was playing sick and was out for a walk
and when I got home I found out that Challenger
blew up..it was terrible...And speaking of TV I LOVED
"You Can't Do That On Televison"-in a lot of ways
it was the "Ren And Stimpy"of its day, totally gross
and offensive but us kids dug it..and who knew
that Alanis on YCDTOT would grow up to be so
angry!!I had no idea that was Alanis Morrissette until
very recently when I read that in an interview with
her!!and Degrassi Junior High(and then Degrassi
High)I don't know how many people saw this where
they lived but it was such a cool show, for a kids show
they sure tackled the issues(and they did it well it was
n't like an afterschool special-remember those?Omig
osh they were like Judy Blume books on TV!!)
