Subject: Toy fad information
Hi- I am 14 years old and my school is doing a project on decades. My homeroom got assigned the eighties so I was told to research fads. I decided to do the report on toy fads so I am asking any body who would know about any backround information if they would write to me and tell me all that they know about Cabbage Patch Kids, Care Bears, and My Little Ponies. Thanks a lot for all you people who do take the time to help me with this.

Hi Lindsey. Cabbage Patch Kids were the biggest craze around the holiday season of 1984. They were the equivalent to Furbies this year. No one could get one, so when stores received shipments, parents would rush to the site and basically act like wild animals to try and get one for their kid. I was one of those kids who wanted one, but I didn't get one that Christmas (boo hoo :) ). I guess they were probably one of the first "hot" toys where the demand far outweighed the supply.
Cabbage Patch Kids were created by Xavier Roberts. They each came with their own adoption papers and name (a first and middle name), but you could change it if you wanted to, obviously. They came in different skin, hair, and eye color, so you could have one that looked like you. That is, if you could find one.
People either loved or hated Cabbage Patch Kids. I was 10 when they were most popular, but a lot of adults thought they were ugly (like many adults do with Furbies!).
Good luck on your project!

Actually, it was the X-Mas of 1983. At first I thought it was 1984, but it was because I got my first CPK in 1984(I was five).
