Subject: name of an 80's dance song without words

Written By: Chris Durian on 3/13/1999 at 6:55 p.m.

AN OBSCURE QUEST: I have for many years been searching for the name (or artist, or any clues to the identity) of a song I heard often in dance clubs in the American midwest circa 1987-88. The thing is, it doesn't have any words. I'll describe it briefly here, but if anyone wants to honestly try to figure this out, I am willing to attempt to duplicate the melody using a keyboard(over the phone or something). Contact me via email if interested.

The melody ot this song sounds vaguely exotic, almost middle eastern. It sounds sort of like a predecessor to todays so-called trance music (a subgenre of electronica/techno). I remember that at some point in the song there's a part that sounds like an air raid siren that gets higher and higher in pitch, then lower and lower again (followed by a quasi-drum roll break made by an electronic rhythm machine). Also, the overall sound of the song is similar to the Beverly Hills Cop theme AXEL F (that's not the song, though).

For anyone who actually wants to help me find the answer to this obscure quest, here's two sequence of musical notes which represent the most memorable synthesizer riffs from the song. They should all be played as quarter-notes in 6/8 time, with a significant rest in between the two lines:

SEQUENCE 1: A Bflat C# D C# Bflat A G A (7 quarter rests) E D C# Bflat G A Bflat C# A

SEQUENCE 2 (comes shortly after sequence 1 in the song) E F G# A G# F E D E (7 quarter rests) B A G# F E D E F F

I've asked friends over the years, to no avail. One main reason I want to find this is so I'll know I'm not crazy -- I do remember this song. Help me! Thanx, Chris

I heard your demo, but have no idea who it could be. Sorry.
