Subject: who's the band?

Written By: Jean on 3/10/1999 at 9:19 p.m.

The intro to this song has a long sax part, and towards the middle of the song the lyrics go, "He's thinking about buying some land, give up the booze, and the one night stands..." Anyone know who sings this? Thanks

If I'm correct it's "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty

Absolutely. Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. The Foo Fighters did a creditable version quite recently, too.

they've actually done a lot of cool 80s covers lately, (not that GR was 80s) though I did have to laugh a little when I heard the Bakers Street cover...

For what it's worth, Gerry Rafferty was a part of the Scottish Duo Stealer's Wheel that had the big '70s hit "Stuck in the Middle with You." Which Sheryl Crow totally plagiarized as "All I Wanna Do is Have some Fun" - listen for yourself!

I don't know about Sheryl Crow, but what about blatant copying of songs? It's like some singers/groups (I wouldn't dare call them artists!) can't even think of an original idea. The whole new metallica album is covers!! I swear, it is so pitiful!!! I was so sick of that puff daddy song "I'll be missing you" Whadafuh!!! Half the time the audience these newcomers are appealing to don't even know they're being had!! Look at Orgy and tehat song Blue Monday. Hello!? Doesn't anybody remember it was a new order song?!!? Ah well. I guess we can't fault anyone for liking the 80s sound....
