Subject: Mall Memories

What are your favorite memories of hanging out at your local shopping mall when you were younger? Do you still like to go malling?

Some of the things I used to like doing at the mall when I was younger include getting frozen yogurt at the food court and browsing in one of my favorite stores, Spencer's Gifts.

Nowadays, I don't hang out in malls too much because at the one near where I live, there are a lot of obnoxious, mouthy teenagers hanging around. (Not that I'm saying they're all like that, mind you)

I remember hanging out at the mall on weekends, one of the sections didnt have any open stores and alot of us used this area as a place to Breakdance. I also enjoyed visiting the Music stores, and a store called 'Merry Go Round' it was a fad/fashion clothes and accessories store. (like 'Hot Topic' is now days)

I work in a music store in our local mall now so I am friends with alot of our Mallrats, they have outlandish styles of clothes and hair. and I see that alot of "regular people" avoid them or point and talk about them. but for the most part our mallrats arent any trouble. they are alot like me and my friends were in our age.

I remember just kind of cruising the mall (before I was able to drive). Me and my friends would walk around and see what cute guys we could see and/or flirt with.
And of course if we went to the mall, we had to have mall hair.  :D
We'd buy something small like earrings or something so we wouldn't look like we were just there to find a guy.  ::)
When I got a little older (but still before I could drive) we used the mall as an "excuse" to our parents. They would drop us off there and then we'd have older friends pick us up and we'd just be back there when the mall closed so our parents could pick us up...those were the days.  :)

Ah, Spencer's Gifts...
Chippendale's posters and "You're ugly and your mother dresses you funny" pins.  That was a store tailor-made for mouthy, obnoxious teenagers!
In the early '80s some mall record shops still had a smidgen of hipness.  The clerks seemed like they knew something about music, and the stock reflected decisions actually made in that store.  They were still chain record stores in chain shopping malls, but not quite as sterile and cookie-cutter as they became a few years later.
In the '80s, the mall store with the most horrid clothes had to be Tello's.  You know, "The Tello's Approach."  Man, that was cheesy stuff!

I remember rushing to the mall to get the latest song on a cassette tape single for like 2.99.
I also remember do several walkarounds just looking for boys.

My girlfriends and I used to roam the mall in search of boys and looking around "Mariposa". It used to be a cool store back in the day but has now gotten cheesy. We used to buy earings a lot. I remember buying a pair of dangly 'peace' sign earings.

I remember hanging out at the mall with my friends looking for cute guys.  There was even a cascading water fountain that all the girls used to stand at to "scope out" the area for cute guys.  We'd check out some of the stores and usually come home having bought something, but that wasn't the reason we went there! ;)

The sure did!  But I prefer the mall scene in The Blues Brothers.
"Will there be anything else?"
"Yes, do you have a Miss Piggy?"
;D
