what kind of fabric was used in the 80's?

Do you mean in general or what?  In general, the same as today...cotton, polyester, etc.

Sorry but your question isn't real clear.  If you're talking about clothing, then primarily cotton - jeans, izod shirts, khakis, etc.

Most of my clothes were cotton t-shirts, and jerseys, and blue jeans.

my shoes were canvas as I mostly wore VANS (black and white checked)

on occassion in the early 80s I also wore Parachute Pants which I believe were mostly nylon.

but over all cotton t-shirts and blue jeans were it. just like today.
