Subject: Duran Duran at the Brit awards....
I guess they kicked but at the awards!!!!!I haven't seenit, but I'm told it will air on April 4th on A&E so everyone can see them get a lifetime acheivement award!!!!! The guys gave a 9 and 1/2 minute medley performance and did a great job at it I heard!!!!
Go Duran Duran!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also hear that as a result of the award show, The 'Greatest' album has re-entered the charts(British I assume) at #4!!!!
The Arena and Sing Blue Silver DVD's will also be released on May 5th in the states, April 5th in the U.K.

I watched it and they were very good - definitely the highlight of the show.
They played three songs - Ordinary World, Hungry Like A Wolf and Wild Boys.

I might get booed off this site for saying this, but keep in mind I am a huge Duran2 fan.
I saw the awards as they were broadcast here in Canada on CBC. I have seen the four thousand repeats on Much Music also.
I have to say that Simon looked "spaced". Almost as if he were in a haze (just a figure of speech, I'm not accusing of anything). The other members were right on. Andy is and always was my favorite.
Keeping in mind that they're now almost 25 years older than when they formed, I guess it's just that the "spark" or "jump" in Simon may be fading. The performance was great nonetheless. Although I think that "The Reflex" would have been a better choice for them.
By the way, the songs they did were:

Ordinary World
Wild Boys

Didn't they also get a "Lifetime Achievment Award" on some now bland award show on MTV? All they got was just 3 minutes and no "5 minute tribute thing" or performance.
Atleast they were recoginizable unlike Guns N' Roses...or braided Axl Rose and some other people who aren't Slash, Izzy or Duff McCagen. :P

I didn't watch the Mtv awards but I saw pictures where they did receive that award. And I believe Avril lavigne and Kelly Osbourne presented them with it.

I love D2 and still have all the posters and magazines, videos, headbands etc from when they first came out. I think the only one that has aged well is my Fav Nick Rhodes. Roger looks way old, or maybe it was just the photo.

Sorry to break the news, but A&E didn't air the awards today. (April 4, 2004).
Update: Look like A&E won't be airing this anytime soon since I checked two tv schedules, which lists shows for the next two weeks. :P (I also checked the Rock On TV site) :-/

I have seen pictures of the guys @ the Brits. I am so happy for them. I especially loved the picture of Nick Rhodes dancing with Scarlette Johansan. It sure is nice to see Nick getting some attention for a change.
John, the other love of my life, I hate to say, is not looking too good these days. His hair! My god, what has he done to his hair?! I used to love the long hair he had with the blonde bangs, circa "Sugar Town". But, Nick still looks ever so scrumptious! I was never a big Simon fan, so no comment about him. He's just there. Andy looks better than ever, if only he'd get rid of those danr sunglasses already. Roger, next to Nick, looks the best.
I am just glad that the guys weren't upstaged at this event, like at the VMA's when Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera made out with Madonna. That totally ticked me off! That, like, comepletely stole the spotlight from DD winning their first Lifetime Achievement Award. I would have liked to see some press about that, but NO!! They gotta' focus on all this Britney Spears-crap! What a disgrace to the feminist movement that girl is! I can't stand her, aaaaahhhhh!!! At least Duran Duran are true talent and substance!

I live in England, and did watch the performance. Even though I wasn't a Duranie in the 80's, they struck me as still being pretty musically sound, although I would say Simon LB's voice is wavering a bit with age, and doesn't have the 'edge' it used to. They all seem to be aging quite well, but as they all used to wear loads of make-up anyway, it's hard to tell...The 80's-style hairdos looked dated & out of place with 00s clothes. Still, probably one of the few 80s New Romantic bands that can still 'hold their own' (stop sniggering at the back....)

I actually found the video of them at the Brits available for download. I thought it was from their official website, but maybe it was just something someone posted on the messageboard around the time it came out. I know the official site said it had been postponed, and that they would post when it becomes available.
The Mtv music awards were horribly botched (the video montage didn't play as expected) and the two people they got to present clearly had no ability to present anything. I was fairly disappointed with what should have been a big moment for them. Especially since they're part of what made Mtv watchable in the early days of the channel.
I don't have the time to read the messageboards at duranduran.com very often, but usually there's some cool stuff you can find by skimming through the messages posted. The software they use for the messageboard kinda stinks, but at least it works.
