Subject: Anyone here for Miami Vice???? 8-)
HI! I am new here and hope to be a part of this grand Forum everyday! I was wondering that, as this is an 80's Forum, and Miami Vice was one of the GREAT ICONS of the 80's, if anyone here was a fan of that radical TV series, as I am!
HOpe to hear from you!
Freeze...Vice!!!!!!!!!! ;D

I loved Miami Vice. I wish I could get old episodes on DVD. ;D

Oh yeah, how can anyone forget the Don Johnson fuzzy look, eh? Day old growth, shirt unbuttoned, no ties, fancy car and a crocodile for a pet. :D
I remember the very first time I saw MV. It was a wednesday night in 1985 and I was about to leave to go see some friends and decided to catch the first episode. I remember being so blown away by the scripting, the scenes, camera angles, and the music.. that I said screw it, i'm sticking around to watch this.
Right after the show ended, I ran over to my friends' place and told him he HAD to see this show. Within a few weeks everyone was talking about MV. Definitely an original show and I watched it until it was taken off the air.
I thought his black Ferrari Daytona Spyder was the coolest car (actually, it was a 'vette kit car). 8)

Oddly enough it was something I never watched in the 80s (I think I was too young for it). I wouldn't mind having a look at it now but I rarely see it mentioned in the British TV guides.

I sometimes watch it on mornings on Spike TV. 8)
And it also has the greatest theme of the entire decade. 8)

;D WOW! Absolutely Rad!!!!! Am I glad Miami Vice still lives in many people's hearts! It will surely live in mine 4-ever!
That Crockett's Theme is one of the most beautiful instrumentals I have ever listened to, the new CD that recently came out is WORTH having,...I know that in Europe it's starting to come out in DVD's, but not here, there is some problem with Universal, exactly I dunno what it is, i have all the episodes taped except one called "When Irish Eyes are Crying", which is the famous one where the gorgeous black Daytona blows up, I will probably buy from the guy that has the site called www.miamivice.com, he sells all the episodes there, I taped mine from the TNN channel. My fab episode of all is (well, actually two) The Prodigal Son and Brother's Keepers., and the Burnett's Trilogy is really good too!

I used to LOVE that show. I would look forward to Friday nights just to be able to see Crockett. ;D :D

I wish I could find the official music video Jan Hammer did of this...where it shows him playing all the different instruments, & there's the screen behind him. :-/

I know Jan Hammer did 'Crockett's theme' in 1987 but was it linked to Miami Vice? I love that instrumental - it has been in a few television commercials in Britain since.

Yes, that theme was in several of the episodes from Season 1,2 and 3, and I th ink they also had it in some of the rest of the other seasons, I don't k now the dumb reason why, if in Europe and other countries they already have the DVD's, we can't have them here in the US, again, I know it's a big problem with Universal Studios but I haven't gotten to the root of the problem yet, I bought a few months back the new CD of Miami Vice with the songs featured in the episodes, the CD is a MUST HAVE, it brings all the important songs like Crockett's Theme, Evan, New York Theme, Tubbs and Valerie, and many more, ...I don't know if you all k now that there have been important talks about making "Miami Vice-The movie" for the big screen, I believe Don Johnson wanted to be the Director and Jan Hammer was also to be involved in it, I will keep you posted! 8)
Subject: Re: Anyone here for Miami Vice???? 8-)
Don't forget Edward James Olmos, and the occasional Rae Dawn Chong appearance too. ;D
Subject: Re: Anyone here for Miami Vice???? 8-)
On one episode they used Depeche Mode's "Fly on the Windscreen" as incidental music.
Don't forget one of the great fashion trends from MV, the Don Johnson mullet! Long in the back, spiky on top.
Paranoid right wing psycho radio talk show host G. Gordon Liddy uses Jan Hammer's "Miami Vice" theme as his own theme song.
Jan Hammer eats it. I've heard a bunch of his records and, boy, are they painful!
Subject: Re: Anyone here for Miami Vice???? 8-)
They used Depeche Mode's music??? :o I really, really hope the episodes goes to DVD. ;D
Subject: Re: Anyone here for Miami Vice???? 8-)
Not to crash the party, but I never really got into MV. I remember my aunt, uncle, and cousins being blown away by it, and I probably never got into it because I associated it with their trend-slave mentality. I really liked Magnum PI though. He, TC, and Rick seemed more like real guys, and I liked Magnum's Ferrari better than Johnson's.

Phil Collins was in an episode as well. The story I heard that got him cast in an episode was that Phillip Michael Thomas (as if I need to ask you to correct me if i'm wrong about the name ;)) wanted to use some of Phil's songs in the show, and Phil said he'll grant him permission if he wrote him in as a character. I vaguely remember seeing that in an interview back then, so details may be wrong.
Subject: Re: Anyone here for Miami Vice???? 8-)
;)Yes, that episode was called "Phil the Shill", and if I am not mistaken, I believe that your story is true, about PMT and Phil Collins....Then in the first famous 2 hour opening episode called :"Brother's Keeper", ;there is a beautiful scene wherein Sonny is driving all alone in his Daytona, all bothered about a problem with his wife, Caroline, and you could listen to one of Phil's most beautiful tunes, In the Air Tonight, while he drove on a deserted street late at night..that scene was recalled by many as "goose-bumping"... ;D :-*

I used to watch Magnum every week! I liked him because he wasn't really rich, he just got to live at Robin Masters' estate in the gatehouse, and drive Mr. Masters' Ferrari. In every episode something totally humbling happened to him, he always bungled the case, but got the job done in the end. Plus he had to put up with that twit, Higgins.
Otherwise, I've got noooo use for Tom Selleck.
I was never a fan of MV myself. "Hill Street Blues," the predecessor of "NYPD Blue," was more my speed.

No - I thought it was pretty stupid. :P
