Subject: What 80's movie takes you back ?
Every time I get down or start missing the old days I either pop in Fast Times at Ridgemont High or Vacation . They both bring back such great memories .
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
There are many but I'd have to say the John Hughes movies are the primary films which trigger the wayback machine for me.
Pretty In Pink
Sixteen Candles
Breakfast Club
Weird Science
Some Kind of Wonderful
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
etc., etc., etc...
OK here's the rest of my list of films that set off serious 80's nostalgia!
To Live and Die in L.A.
Blue Velvet
Repo Man
The Hunger
Blade Runner
Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai
Less Than Zero
St. Elmo’s Fire
About Last Night
The Sure Thing
Modern Girls
After Hours
Into the Night
Back to the Future
Better Off Dead
One Crazy Summer
Say Anything
Near Dark
Can't Buy Me Love
War Games
Princess Bride
Raising Arizona
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Gotcha!
Roxanne
Valley Girl
Highlander
Real Genius
Tron
Just One of the Guys
Back to School
Now I'm going to want to watch each and every one of these.
Thanks!
Zed

Some great movies mentioned there, Zed Omega. The fantasy films Labyrinth, Neverending Story and Back to the Future take me back as well. However, the film 'See no evil, Hear no Evil' (featuring Gene Wilder and Richard Prior) is the main film that takes me back to the 80s (just about though, the film was made in 1989).
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
John Hughes always take me back...doesn't matter which one. :) Also, Heathers, Legend, Labrynth, Neverending Story, Better Off Dead, ET, Harry and the Hendersons, Footloose, Can't Buy Me Love, Nightmare on Elm St, Splash!...so many to list so little time (and space ;) )

Ah yes Labyinth - I forgot that one. As I'm sure I did many others.
See no Evil, Hear no Evil was funny as Hell!
Cows!!! Cows!!!! LMAO!
Prior and Wilder were hysterical together and I love their movies, but for some reason they don't trigger thoughts of the 80's specifically. I think they just remind me of the other times I watched them and split my sides laughing!

Tee hee. I liked the part where they were both getting their photos taken at the jail, and the photographer couldn't get Wilder to look at the camera.

I think Footloose has got to be the movie that takes me back the most. The styles and music just bring me straight back to my senior year in high school in 1984.
Of course, like everyone else, the John Hughes movies are monumental 80s nostalgia. In fact, I just got a great idea for a new post! ;D
Other 80s movies that "do it" for me are:
Better Off Dead
Say Anything
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Last American Virgin
Reckless
Valley Girl
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?

Bachelor Party
Nightmare on Elm Street
Breakfast Club
3 O'Clock High
Weekend at Bernie's
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
Any movie by the great John Hughes. The guy certainly had a feel for the teens of that era. By the way whatever happened to the cast of Sixteen Candles.... especially Molly Ringwald???
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
You can go to this link and all you do is click on the cast memeber name and it will bring you to a page on imdb that shows what if anything they have done...

A Big THANKS Rubixgirl. I needed to know what Duckie and the clan was up to since I saw Molly in a sitcom called "The Townies"
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
Duckie was in Pretty in Pink...the link above is for 16 Candles.., but you can always search imdb.com, for any movie and just click on any member of the cast to see what their filmography is. I love learning about the actors and their different projects.

I think Jon Cryer has a tv series or did recently but I can't think of the name of it at the moment.
Movies that take me back:
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
National Lampoon's Vacation
Mr Mom
Any of the Police Academy flicks
Three Men and a Baby
Best movie featuring an 80's high school reunion: Gross Pointe Blanke 8)

Cryer's TV series in 1989-1990 was "The Famous Teddy Z" http://imdb.com/title/tt0096580/
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
Jon Cryer also was on a tv show on Fox in the mid 90's yet once again the name of it escapes me; I do remember him playing a guy competing for his best friend and roomate's attention with the man's girlfriend. Tate Donovan (who was dating Jennifer Aniston at the time) was his co-star.
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
I really dig Ferris Buehler's Day Off, and, The Wedding Singer, although it was not made in the 80's, it's set IN the 80's and that's fine with me!,Also, The Beverly Hills Cop.
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
Desperately Seeking Susan
Fatal Attraction(first video I ever rented)
Ghostbusters(I even remember everyone in the theater going absolutely NUTS during the last scenes, especially when Mr.Sta-Puf shows up!)
Top Gun
Purple Rain(makes me think of 80's music)
Caddyshack(one of the funniest movies EVER!)
National Lampoon's VACATION
E.T.
Halloween III(that darn Silver Shamrock jingle!)That had some really GORY scenes in it. The one that gave me the willies was when that lady in the motel opened the tag on the back of the masks-and got shot by it's laser beam!! Disgusting!! And the ending where the guy calls the TV stations and tells them to stop running the ad!!
and the biggie-
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom!BTW,whatever happened to the kid called "Short Round"?
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
"Say Anything" with John Cusack......
I swear it's my biography.

I was crazy about Desperately Seeking Susan. I loved the entire style of the film, the plot, the fashions, the atmosphere, the music...
I even had a Madonna poster (Desperately Seeking Susan fatigues) for a while. "Get Into the Groove" still reminds me of DSS.
Madonna was the big draw, but that movie cast some cool people, including:
Arto Lindsay: personal ads clerk
Rockets Redglare* (R.I.P.): cab driver
Steven Wright: Larry Stillman, DDS
Anne Carlisle (of "Liquid Sky" fame): Victoria, Jim's GF
Richard Hell: Bruce Meeker, the creep
*he was a roadie/security guard for the Sex Pistols, Sid Vicious, Jean Michel Basquiat, and a roadie for Billy Joel's first band, The Hassles. He also did some goofy theater stuff with Steve Buscemi. He died of cirrhosis, kidney failure, and hepatitis C a couple of years ago.
Also, Laurie Metcalf, who played Roberta's gold-digging sister-in-law, made it bigtime on "Roseanne" as Roseanne's sister, Jackie.

Weeeeelll, it's more like The Internet Movie Database Knows itsstuff!
;D
Otherwise, I wouldn't know Rockets Redglare from Adam. I didn't know Arto Lindsay was in 1985, but I do now! He was then fresh from the NYC "No Wave" scene with his band "Ambitious Lovers," with Peter Scherer. Lindsay now makes EXCELLENT Brazilian-style pop music with a tasteful amount of electronica thrown in. He collaborates with a lot of cool jazz & pop artists on his CDs. So hip it hurts!
Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
IMDB is a cool site. There's not many more places that have great pictures of Scarlett Johanssen.

Subject: Re: What 80's movie takes you back ?
What about the movie "The Outsiders" and Karate Kid. Man, I haven't seen them in a long time. St. Elmo's Fire kicked butt. I was madly in love with Rob Lowe. Heck, he's still hot! There are so many movies from the 80's that really bring back memories. Didn't life seem easier back then? Or maybe I'm just getting old........... hhmmmmmmmmmmm...........
