It's great that you love 80s music - it really does rock!

I was thinking of making an 80s music mix using my Dance-J software that I have. I think you should put some synth stuff on like 'Jump' by Pointer Sisters, 'Who's Johnny' by Debarge, 'Body' by The Jacksons - that kind of thing would rock on an 80s mix.

Good luck.  :)

I'm with Howard on that.  80's music really was a variety, people could find any kind of music they were looking for, the groups was so diverse back then.

Just so we're clear, you weren't saying Cranberries and Ace of Base were of the 80's, right? (they're of the 90s... don't make me feel old at 24) :P

OK ON to the topic...
I was born in 80, so I happen to know a quite a bit of 80s music.  When I was a kid, other kids always tried so hard to be like adults, so they liked to mimic them from what they saw on TV or mostly at home.  That's why I know so much pop music from way back.  On MTV and VH1(which came much later), they played videos from many years back, so I got to know many videos.
These are some songs I know that take me back:

Venus (Belinda Carlysle)
Walk Like an Egyptian, & Manic Monday (Bangles)
Heaven Is a Place on Earth (Belinda Carlysle)
Living On a Prayer (Bon Jovi)
Whip It (Devo)
Land of Confusion (Genesis) even though the video scared the heck out of me
Pump Up the Volume (M.A.R.R.S.)
Smooth Criminal (Michael Jackson)
Straight Up (Paula Abdul)
And you can't have "Bust a Move" without "It Takes Two"(Rob Base) :P

And I half-disagree with Howard and Pennsygirl.  There's still good music out there today, but you just gotta know where to look.

you definitely got a point there Chrisrj. :)

I didn't mean to imply that there is no good music out there today, but a majority of it isn't.  I still think the 80's, (especially the very early '80's) offered a lot more in variety than today's music does.  :)

hehe...i wasn't sayin the cranberries and ace of base were necessarily 80's i was jus giving some examples of music i like and 90's are fine too cuz i was a kid then and i'm basically look in for music that reminds me of then, but also, i really have no clue bout time periods and what groups were what time period lol all i care bout is the music...but i'm tryin to be better with that sorta stuff hehe so ur gunna have bear with me on that  :P  ;D and i have to agree with u chrisrj about the music thing today cuz there are a lot of really awsome bands out there, they are jus different b/c the time period is different, which means the whole style is not gunna be the same thats why a lot of people think the stuff now is all trash, but it's not ALL bad just very different from the old stuff

I can't believe that no one mentioned Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, or The Box.  :). At least I don't think so. I skimmed the song titles.

Love Shack was 1989, but VH1 put it in best videos of the 90s in 1999, as 1991. ???  And Funkytown was 1980.

Here are a few more to look for, all from 1986:

Take Me Home Tonight (Eddie Money)
Take My Breath Away (Berlin), and
Danger Zone (Kenny Loggins), both from Top Gun.

The same for "Free Fallin" (Tom Petty) & "We Didn't Start The Fire" (Billy Joel).

Plus, VH1 threw in "U Can't Touch This" (MC Hammer) on "Top 80's from the '80's" on their site.  :P Good song, fun video, but it was from 1990.
But I could be wrong. When was "U Can't Touch This" released? Late '89 like November or December or early '90? Then again he had a minor hit with "Turn This Mutha Out" in 1989.

Some songs from the tail end of the '80's...1989.

"Rhythm Nation" Janet Jackson
"No Myth" Michael Penn
"Eternal Flame" The Bangles
"Love Song" The Cure
"Forever Your Girl" Paula Abdul
"Once Bitten, Twice Shy" Great White
"Hey Ladies" Beastie Boys
"Patience" Guns N' Roses
"Heaven" Warrant
"So Alive" Love & Rockets
"Fire Woman" The Cult
"She Drives Me Crazy" Fine Young Cannibles
"Funky Cold Medina" Tone Loc
"Every Little Step" Bobby Brown
"Everlasting Love" Howard Jones

Some more good songs to put on your mix....

David Bowie- Blue Jean
Duran Duran- the Reflex
The Power Station - Get it on Bang a Gong
Depeche Mode- Enjoy the Silence
Duran Duran- Girls on Film
Adam and the Ants- Stand and Deliver & Kings of the Wild Frontier

Blondie- Call Me
Micheal Jackson- Billie Jean
Arcadia- Election Day
Murray Head- One Night in Bangkok

And SOOOOOOOO many more it isn't even funny.

I did the same thing you did, I made a Mix of songs for one CD that has so far spread out to 15 CDs!!

What I did was I went to the In the 80s website, where there is a section of people's Top 10 Songs of the 80s.

I picked a lot of the once I'd never heard but kept seeing on the lists repeatedly, turns out I loved all of those songs and actually knew some of them too!!

Good luck on your CD! I had fun making mine!!!

YES!  I had that same problem with Kazaa with EVERY song...my advice is to uninstall that and download Bearshare.  WWW.Bearshare.com
I havent had any problems with bearshare.
