Subject: Am I Weird?
People call me weird because all i listen to is 80s music, i am 23 years-old and i have listened to 80s music since i was small i took a little bit of a break from the age of 11-17, but now i have gone back to the class 80s music not the crap that is released now.
I love the 80s because it reminds me of some of the good times of my childhood. Should i be classed as a weirdo???? I think not.

No, you just have a wide diverse taste in music. 8)
There's actually many people around your age that listens to music from the past 10, 15, 20, even 50 years.
There's a similar post in the "Before the '70's" forum, ,"I'm 20", that might answer your question. :)

Yeah, if you look at the "I'm 20" post in Before the 70s, you'll read a lot of reasons why there is no way at all you are weird. I'm 19 and I listen to the same stuff you do and thensome.
I have never thought I was weird, I always embrace my diverse taste in music cuz it helps me relate to a lot of people I would've never met if it weren't for the music.
Those people being everyone I talk to on this awesome board!!!!!!

heck no. your original. in my teens, during the 80s, i was obsessed with rock from the 50s and 60s. to this day i can sing the lyrics to half of what i hear on golden oldies radio stations. in the 90s my tastes drifted to the 70s. i was into pink floyd, david bowie and led zeppelin when my other friends were into grunge. now it's the 00s (what the hell do you call this decade!) and i'm obsessed with the 80s.

I'm the same way...I listen to 80's more than anything else. I have no problem rolling down the windows and jaming to "billie jean" ;D
Subject: Re: Am I Weird?
In the 70's we were nostalgic about the fifties, in the 80's it was 60's nostalgia, in the 90's reminiscing about the 70's was in and now the 80's are rad again!
I mostly listen to music from the 70's and 80's these days, the stuff I grew up on. For a while in my twenties I was into grunge but for me music started going downhill when the Spice Girls came onto the scene, followed by Britney and Christina and all those boy bands.
Not that all music today is bad. I like listening to rap and hip hop and some of today's rock groups (like Good Charlotte), but they don't beat the classics.

Just b/c some of people your age may not be able to think outside their box and believe the world started when they were born doesn't at all make you weird.
I was very aware of 50/60/70 music and the fads back in the 80s, but now my fave is definitely the 80's. ;D
Don't let them make you feel weird at all!!! :)

I can relate. I enjoy listening to 80s music, and I'm 23 years old just like you. It was some time in the mid-90s when I began to develop a fondness for 80s music; by 1997 it was something I listened to on the radio every weekend.
You're not weird. In fact, since I was in the single digits during the 80s, I actually did not know most of the music that came out then, at the time. Now I know over 500 songs from the 80s; many of which I heard for the first time during the past 10 years alone.
Subject: Re: Am I Weird?
I always considered being a little weird a good thing. Normal is so boring.
I am 36 years old and have Elvis, Beatles and Beach Boys records, Pink floyd, Led Zeppelin, Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Clash, XTC, Erasure, NIN, Ministry, Morphine, Poi Dog Pondering cassettes, White Stripes, Hot Hot Heat and Grandaddy CDs and everything in between. Variety is the spice of life.
Plus, alot of the Pop music you here today was influnced by the British invasion of the 60s, the Hip Hop of the 70s and the Pop of the 80s. More people would be doing themselves some good to go back to a little Kinks, Grand Master Flash and Bananarama.

;)Yeah you're weird.(just kidding)My favorite music is mostly 50s and early 60s.Cheers!
Subject: Re: Am I Weird?
No, you are definitely not weird! My nephew is 25 and remembers vaguely some of the music of the '80's, but when I turned him on to much of it, he couldn't get enough. Now, it's not at all strange to see him cruising with the windows rolled down blasting '80's tunes.
Subject: Re: Am I Weird?
No, I don't think you're weird.
You're not alone. I sometimes think I'm the only one born in '76 who likes late 60s psychadellic tunes and early 70s mellow songs.

You just pretty much described me right there, except I've never been told I was weird cause of it... just obsessed.
xo.

No, you are not weird. The only reason people think you are weird is because of the time frame you were born in. I've noticed a large gap between people born roughly 1978 and after and those who were before. People born in your generation did not really care about pop culture until about 1990, when most of you busted a move with MC Hammer or listened to NKOTB. 80s culture for the most part is foreign to you guys. So people who did not grow up in the era would not really identify with the era and therefore think it's just a bunch of "oldies" that is not part of their generation.
