Subject: totally absurd show --- what's the name?!

Written By: slipofthetongue on 02/18/04 at 11:41 a.m.

okay.. a while back, a highschool teacher showed this video in class... i believe it is a movie.. maybe a series.  i cannot for the life of me think of the title. here's the basic plot: these people somehow get held prisoner on an island by some crazy scientist guy who controls where they work, live, etc.. they cannot escape & if they try to, this crazy white balloon thing chases them.. it's really cheesy. its kinda this one guy's story of how he tries to escape, though i cannot remember how it ends.
please help!
thanksabunch  ;D

That show you are talking about is one of my favourites and, although it came out in the 60's, it is very much relevent in today's surveillance society.  It's called "The Prisoner" starring Patrick McGoohan.

The Prisoner was one of the strangest, oddest, most surreal TV shows ever...and it only ran 17 episodes.

Way too thought provoking for todays reality TV show viewer...

Still to this day I wonder if each new #2 was the boss, or #6 was really #1...who were the prisoners on the village island and who were the guards ????
The BBC actually got angry calls and letters in frustration from viewers when it originally aired, demanding the BBC explain what the hell was going on...
Man, was this a bizzare show...I've watched the same episodes over and over and see different things and ideas each time I watch.

Fantastically weird show!

By the way, there was an episode of  "The Simpons" from Season 12 called "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes" that incorporated elements of "The Prisoner". Homer was the prisoner - very funny!

I just saw it at Media Play during my lunch break today! It looks like it's available on DVD in multiple sets. I didn't look too closely!
