Subject: Sadat's Assassination

Written By: Indy Gent on 02/12/04 at 05:06 p.m.

The Egyptian President sign the first Middle East Peace Agreement with then-US President Jimmy Carter and Israel Prime Minister Menachen Begin in 1978. Two years later he was dead. In 1980, the World was trying to regain its collective breath from the attempted assassinations on President Reagan and Pope John Paul II. Anwar el-Sadat's cold blooded murder by militant Arabs was pre-meditated and calculating. For the more militant Arabs and Muslims, it was a celebration (See Muhlamar el-Khaddafi and the Libyans). How did Sadat's death effect the Peace process and the world? Why did it happen and could it happen again today?

I always say there are two topics that'll win you enemies in mixed company: abortion and Israel.

I wouldn't touch this topic with a thirty-nine and a half foot pole!  No sirree! Not with my political orientation.  Not here!

Sadat got assassinated simply because he was the Egyptian head of state.  Egypt has a long tradition of offing its leaders.

He would have been dead meat with or without the peace accord.
