Subject: who's crying now?

Written By: neric1983 on 02/10/04 at 11:55 a.m.

What is the one song from the '80s that makes you literally break down and cry, especially when you hear it nowadays? The one song that does it to me would be "Always Something There To Remind Me" by Naked Eyes (1983). Reminds me of the first time my heart was broken. :'(

One song that depressed the heck out of me was "Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie! The words are such a bummer!

Did not make me cry, but "Russians" by Sting used to freak me out because it was all about the bomb, its so haunting.

"Goodbye" by Night Ranger.  It doesn't so much anymore, but it used to remind me of an old girlfriend and it came out right after we broke up.

It's going to sound like an odd choice, but it would be New Years Day by U2.  When I was 19 years old, my boyfriend was driving me home one night and that song came on the radio.   For some reason, at just that moment I realized that everything in my life was absolutely perfect.  I remember that night so vividly.
Seemed my life unraveled not even 2 weeks later.  My boyfriend died suddenly, my dream job turned into a nightmare, and my best friend and I had a falling out that led to 20 years of estrangement between us.  Even though it's painful to listen to the song now because it reminds me of all that I lost in such a short time, I can't turn it off because I never want to forget how I felt at that moment that all was right in my universe, so to speak.

The Smith - Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.

I love the song, but I get so depressed when I hear it.

This one is too easy......Journey!!  Both Open Arms and Faithfully.  You have NO idea how many broken hearted tears I cried to each of those songs!  Even now when I hear them, 20 years later, I'm overwhelmed by the terrible remembrance of the pain of first loves and losses.

I agree with Faithfully, but Open Arms makes me smile...just because of the lyrics.   Faithfully sadness me, because now I know that it was Steve Perry's mother's favorite song.
