I think when the AIDS epidemic hit (at that time) was an embarrassment to our government and the people were not respected b/c it was mainly associated w/ being a "gay" disease. In fact the president, never recognized it as a disease.  :-[

I think I remember that the president of the U.S. did recognize it as a disease, but not until Rock Hudson died from it.

Well that would be worth researching for your paper. Either way, he was reluctant to recognize it.

I agree.

As far as anything embarrassing besides politics...

* Tammy Faye Baker

* TV Evangelists asking and begging for money

I certainly didn't like those two aspects of the 80's. :P

How about the nation's deficit under President Ronny? Until Georgey Pordgey #2, it was the highest this nation has ever seen. I'd say that's not only embarrassing it's down right humiliating!

How about Iran-Contra?
There are still questions about this and the details are still to be completely unearthed.
Just how is it that Reagan did not know what was going on?
How is it that George Bush Sr., as Vice-Pres (and former CIA director) didn't know either?
This would've been a powder keg that would've destroyed any others Presidents admistration, but good ole Ollie North and Fawn Hall took the fall..
Hmm, maybe George Dubya got his info/intellegence about Iraq & its WMD's from his Dad? It would explain why the info  was flawed...

Oh, yes...that was terribly embarrasing. They don't do it as bad nowadays, but also that Oral Roberts that said Jesus was going to take him home if he didn't get so many millions of dollars.  ::)
Oh, and don't forget the scandals

The embarrasing part was the mess Ronny had to clean up after Jimmy Carter.  Carter is a great diplomat, but he was a bad president.  And besides, I was more embarassed about the president (Clinton) who was an infidel and lied about it.
