Subject: Speaking of cover tunes...

Has anyone heard the cover of The Cure's "Love Song"?  It's done by 311 for the "Fifty First Dates" soundtrack.  They did a pretty good job on it!  I know this was done recently, but since I started this thread, what are some of your favorite cover tunes?

Actually, it's the other way around, sort of. "Hand In Glove" is a Smiths song. If I'm not mistaken, it was their first single. Sandie Shaw covered it...but it was with The Smiths (minus Morrissey) backing her up.

Absolutely Vile

here some of my favourites:

there's another cover of the cures 'love song' made by snake river conspiracy. one word gets turned into a profanity in the cover. still good though.

'here comes the rain again' by the eurythmics is covered by the cruxshadows. it's pretty good.

'mad world' by tears for fears, covered by gary jules. it's like TFF's made an acoustic version of their song. it's good.

jesus and mary chain does a cover of leonards cohens 'tower of song' replete with JaMC's trademark fuzzy guitars and noise.

this mortal coil's cover of tim buckley's 'song to the siren'. gives me chills.

Tom Jones's cover of Prince's "Kiss"
X's cover of The Doors "Crystal Ship"

Of course that's not ALL.  It's from Martin Gore's Counterfeitep!  You tell 'em the rest, it you want.

D'oh! You're right.  I got that backwards.  Sandie Shaw was a hasbeen songbird from the '60s.  She had a cover of Cilla Black's "Anyone Who Had a Heart" on the British Electric Foundation's "Music of Quality and Distinction, Volume 1."  This album was also the beginning of Tina Turner's comeback, with her cover of "Ball of Confusion."  A little later she hooked up with Morrissey and The Smiths.
Shaw also covered one of my favorite Smiths songs, "Jeanne."

Though I'm a huge fan of the Soft Cell "Tainted Love" cover I have to say that the version Coil did (w/ Marc Almond) in 1984 on the Scatology album is absolutely fantastic. An incredibly somber, slow funeral dirge-like version.
