Subject: Christmas in the 80's
I have such fond memories of Christmas in the 80's, when I was a child. I could go on and on with this, and I know that Christmas is now a month passed, but I'd like everyone to share their favorite Christmas memory. It doesn't have to be someting spectacular, just a little blurb that, if you're a true Christmas lover like I am, reminds you of what Christmas is all about, or just makes you feel good. I have two in particular. One would be decorating the tree in my living room with my family, listening to Christmas music...of course, this happens every year but there's nothing like it when you're a kid. The other would be when I was about 7 or 8 and I was at my friend Heidi's house across the street. Her mother had a very "Country" style to her home and her tree and Christmas decorations reflected that. It was so warm and welcoming and it just felt so good. I miss those day so much. I guess most of us come to this board because we are nostalgic about those days, but sometimes I think I take it further than that. I really wish I could go back and relive it all..it was such an amazing time for me. Makes me feel like the best days of my life have already been lived. Kinda sad when you think about it. Maybe someday someone will build a time machine and I can go back. Who knows.

I remember them being warm and fuzzy too. We had the multi color trees w/ lots of tinsel.

I remember sitting under the Christmas tree on cold December evenings with my Millennium Falcon and Star Wars figures, making up adventures; looking at the presents all wrapped up with my name on them, hoping they were the cool toys I'd been wanting :)

Did anyone else have those plastic mice that had instruments - you would take a christmas tree light and shove it inside it, - sounds weird - but there were really cute on e the tree.
Or what about the fake snow that was really fiberglass?

Real tree with large, multi colored lights and BUBBLE lights...remember those? They were shaped like candles, had liquid in them and would "bubble". Strawberry Shortcake doll and house...that was a favorite gift.
Mostly I just remember being warm, safe, EXCITED and a bit in awe...

I know exactly what you mean, Bill. I was a child in the 80s and I loved the whole idea of being together as a family all cosy and warm while snow falls outside. It's a bit Dickensian I know . . . I notice that the older you get, the fewer pressies you get. :-/

My mom bought those bubble lights....she thought they were the cat's meow!

I have this old book from the 80's with ideas on how to decorate and cook for the holidays, and the pics are all in color and really take me back to when things were less commercialized. We looked forward to watching all the christmas cartoons and movies. Christmas trees with multi colored lights and tons of tinsel:) Being excited when I got dolls and a little red cassette player.

I remember going around the neighborhood looking at the decorations on other peoples homes. Also I remember how my family was always late shoppers so we'd get our friends and families gifts like on christmas eve and we would be in the den just trying to tape things real fast. Then we'd always call my grandparents and get into a argument on how my dads going to pick them up from the airport. Christmases at my house rocked.
