Subject: "Hello Again" video is that Crispin Glover

Written By: ChuckyG on 01/27/04 at 03:48 p.m.

VH-1 Classic played the Cars "Hello Again" tonight, and I swear that was Crispin Glover as a bartender... but I couldn't find any evidence that it was indeed him on the web anywhere

Couldn't find anything either. But I did learn his middle name is Hellion.  :o

Too funny - I actually caught the "Hello Again" video when it aired on VH-1 Classic the other day as well. :-) No, the bartender isn't Crispin Glover. I believe you're trying to overthink this one, ChuckyG. That's because the celebrity in the Cars video is exactly who it appears to be - the unmistakable (and sadly, late) Andy Warhol himself! :-)

Here are some additional facts/details about the 1984 "Hello Again" video, as quoted from the Cars' 1985 biography by Toby Goldstein, Frozen Fire: The Story of The Cars (pg. 104):

"Hello Again," which Andy Warhol directed very inexpensively on location at New York in-spot, the Be Bop Cafe, came about from Ocasek's casual friendship with the artist. "I just called and asked if he'd do it," said Ric matter-of-factly. "I'd seen the TV show and liked the way he used color and 8mm. He wouldn't even accept a big budget; he would only accept a small one." Many of the regulars in Andy Warhol's circle, including the man himself, appeared in the video, and its production probably attracted more attention from the media than the end result, "Hello Again," which sets the Cars inside a very strange nightclub, dealing in various ways with the bizarre characters (a snake handler, a guy in a leopard skin dress) they find there. When reedited for the introduction of the "Heartbeat City" video cassette, the new material contained several graphic images - some toplessness, a very intimate kiss. For the first time, the sexual dimension implied by the Cars' music was offered as visual reality - the central core of their ongoing fantasies.

The book is a paperback, and now long out-of-print, but nevertheless, a good read on the band's history (up till early '85, anyway). I found my copy dirt cheap in a used bookstore about five years ago. (The original cover price was $7.95.) Although I've never looked, I'm sure it appears on eBay every now and then...

Actually, "Hellion" was his nickname, not his middle name...

Ok, but according to imdb.com and an article online they referred to his middle name as that. But it may be that he changed it himself or that's his "stage" middle name.

Yes, I suppose that's possible. I honestly don't know what his real middle name is, or if he even had one. But I do know that the "Hellion" moniker appeared in quotes on the album he released circa 1990 (which is long out-of-print, and now worth big bucks)...

you're right, I am overthinking it... I figured there was no way Andy Warhol would be in a Cars video, and that they got someone who resembled him.  I knew I should have searched the web for "warhol cars video hello again" to see if that matched anything.  Of course I'm not surprised either, Warhol was always doing strange things.

I noticed Judge Reinhold in a Pat Benatar video "Shadows of the Night" the other day... I'm positive it was him.  Maybe I should stop watching these videos
