He was the best Surgeon General their was, he was a household name, truly one of a kind.
Today, people don't know who the Surgeon General is,
What does the "C" stand for.

C.Everett Koop was unique like the Way,
John Cardinal O'Connor was Unique to NYC.

Dr. Koop was definitely unique.  I liked him because he called 'em like he saw 'em.  So when a medical or health issue came up, his opinions were based on his medical experience and not any "political agenda".

He's the "real deal".  :D

He also uncovered (for the public) a very popular myth.  This myth is that elderly people fall and then break their hip.  In fact, according to Dr. Koop, people break their hip and THEN fall.  He says that the way older people tend to break their hips is, when they stand up from a seated position, they have their legs spread open and this puts too much stress on the hips and then POP!  As a result, I always nag my mother to keep her legs together when she gets out of a chair so that she does not break her hip!

Yes he was the best surgeon general.  He wasnt afraid to speak the harsh reality of matters.  He helped bring attention to the HIV virus. He probably was the first to say out loud to use a condom to prevent the spread of AIDS.  Actually, I think you can credit him with the advent of the "safe sex" era.
