When I heard this on the radio this morning I cried. I loved Captain Kangaroo.

He was a brilliant man, the way he could bring children into his confidence and make teach without lecturing.
Something said of Mister Rogers (R.I.P.) that I think applies to Captain Kangaroo: "He was the only gentle voice some children heard all day."
We all joked about Mister Rogers, but I didn't understand his genius until I was over 30. So many children live in unstable homes, with divorce, with family fighting, with neglect, and so many other negatives. Mister Rogers, and again the same applies to C.K, was a reliable adult who could help them deal with the world where their families had failed.
I don't see such a figure for children on television today.

:( NO I can't think of anyone like that at least not an adult authority figure. I do think Blues Clues tries but they also make the adult seem just like another kid.

I was very sad when I heard he passed away. I used to watch the show when I was younger. May he R.I.P. :'(
