Subject: Best Cartoons of the 80s
Might as well start a counter thread to the Worst Cartoons of the 80s.
ROBOTECH is the best of all time. The robots were cool so were the characters. This show had more emotion than live action movies.
Tied with ROBOTECH is STAR BLAZERS.This show had so much heart the ship was so cool and the battle scenes were awesome.
Honorable mentions:Transformers,Mighty Orbots,Pole Position,Thundarr the Barbarian.
Subject: Re: Best Cartoons of the 80s
I personally liked Gem and the Holograms. :) I don't know why my mind of can't think of any others right now. ::)
Subject: Re: Best Cartoons of the 80s
Forgot to mention Thundercats"Lion-O,PLEASE DONT STAB ME IN THE BUTT WITH THE EYE OF THUNDERA"
Subject: Re: Best Cartoons of the 80s
Without question, the best were..
Mighty Mouse, The New Adventures
Ren & Stimpy
Dangermouse
Count Duckula
The Simpsons
These were not ony animated well(compaired to the sloppy, marker limited anime junk that was out there), they weren't out just to sell crap to kids, & they were very well written, which is a rarity of any television programming..

I agree with Gumbypiz here, but I would count R&S and Simpsons as more '90s and than '80s, though they both had their genesis in the '80s. I never saw the proto-Simpsons on the Tracy Ullman Show, but I read Matt Groening's
LIFE IN HELL books prior to the premier of the Simpsons as its own program. Work is Hell was my favorite. Laughed until I cried! :D
Subject: Re: Best Cartoons of the 80s
Masters of the Universe (then...I know the animation was cheesy)
Thundercats
Simpsons (on "Tracey Ullman Show")
Inspector Gadget

"Today's Special" ran on Nickelodeon or Disney in the '80's.
Don't know "Simon in the Land of Chalk Drwings",but there's a current cartoon on Nickelodeon with a similar premise.

Plastic Man and Baby Plas rocked. 8)
The cartoon was so cheesy that it was actually funny to watch. Me and my college roomates always made sure to tune in to Plastic man when it came on.

Well, it wasn't a tube station at the time, but IIRC he was found at Paddington station with a label attached saying "Please look after this bear"
Yes, it is lucky he wasn't "Embankment Bear" or "Waterloo Bear", isn't it? What about "Mornington Crescent Bear"?
Subject: Re: Best Cartoons of the 80s
Does anyone remember the name of this one cartoon circa 1980 where it was about a superhero with a dog so ugly (I think the dog's name might have been Yukk) that he wore what looked like a bird's nest on his head and whenever he took it off everyone would shriek in terror? I've seen it from time to time on Cartoon Network's Boomerang preview on the weekends but I just can't think of the name at the moment.

Some hazy memories are coming back to me. My older sister had one or more of the original Paddington Bear books by Michael Bond. Those were written in the '50s and '60s. I went to the Paddington Bear site to check, and, yup, that's him. He is adorable!
"Things happen to me. I'm that sort of bear."

BTW, when did Paddington get connected to the tube? I seem to remember a terrible train crash happening at Paddington a few years ago. Anyway, when I went to London, I couldn't bring myself to ask the ticket seller for a fare to "Cockfosters"!
