Subject: 80's party decor
Written By: Ben_Logan_ on 01/12/04 at 07:31 a.m.
Hye, I've been given the task of running an 80's party at my uni hall of residence. It entails a dance hall and a bar- I've everthing sorted- games, djs yadda yadda yadda- except the decor. Anyone got and suggestions? I could sort it out but was looking for some inspiration. Cheers

You should have some "Nagle" (not sure of the spelling) posters up all over the place. They were very 80's. And very cool as well. That would be a good start. You could also hang some skinny ties and some "Vans" shoes from the ceiling. If I think of anything else I'll post it. Good luck.
p.s. Where is this party?

I can't remember what they were called, but if you check out the movie "The Wedding Singer", go to the bar scene where Drew Barrymore and her foxy friend head off to the washroom to barf, in the background on the wall of the night club you will see these posters done in a kind of pastel pink and black and featuring a woman who resembles one of Robert Palmers "Addicted To Love" video girls. I used to see those all over the place. Had a few of them in this house a bunch of us used to live in back then.
Also had "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

Secret Squirrell, Those are the "Nagle" ( I wish I could spell it) posters I was talking about in my first reply. If some one knows the correct spelling please post it. I might want some of these myself to use as a back drop on stage for my band.

My suggestion would be to have everything in black and white. Black and white checker was very popular. I still own my black and white checkered suit jacket. Clubs today still have 80's black and white parties and everyone has to dress in black and white.

Patrick Nagle did the 1983 Duran Duran albumn cover Rio, as well as distinctive work for Playboy. Prints covered the walls of the Chicago strip-joints I worked in back then..the panther, shang hai, etc. You'll pay good money once you can find any of these!
As for the black n white checker thing...that is very ska music like.
Wish I could come to your 80tys party!

Some other ideas would be getting some 45s and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line. Maybe some album covers from the 80s would be good too. You could probably find a bunch at a thrift store for almost no cost. Have 80s movies and videos playing with the sound turned down on 2 or 3 TVs. Place Rubik's Cubes around the room for people to play with. Go to Google under images and enter the name of 80s icons (Max Headroom, New Coke, Duran Duran, etc.) and print them off to post around the room. Just a few ideas, good luck with the party!
