Subject: Europe
I was wondering if they had any other hits besides "The Final Countdown" and "Carrie"? Also, are they still together? :) ( I used to be into glam rock bands during the later part of the 80's.) :P ;) ;D

I've wondered what happened to them myself.. ??? Couldn't really find anything when I googled Europe, except about the continent. ::)

Hi! Once again I will save you with my intelligence. ;)
Europe is from Sweden so we scandinavians sure know what happens in a neighbor country. The best song from Final Countdown -album wasn't released as a single in US, only in Europe. It's called Rock the night. It's awesome...
Then in 1988 Europe released the follow up album Out of this world. It wasn't as big as FC but still an excellent album. Try Superstitious, it's also one my favorites.
Good news is that Europe are currently making a comeback and recording new songs in studio.

Thanks migi! ;D I'll be sure to keep an eye for their comeback. And I'll give Superstitious a try. :)

They also had a hit with Rock The Night, great group. If you really want to find out try googling "Joey Tempest" you might find something there.
Subject: Re: Europe
"Cherokee" was also a hit for them. :)

Does anyone know where the *classical* melody used in "The Final Countdown" comes from? I can't remember. Laibach did a cover of "The Final Countdown" on their "NATO" CD.
Another rambling tangent: ;D
Laibach is big on covers. On the same album they did a cover of Zager & Evans' "In the Year 2525,"* changed to "In the Year 1995" (sheesh!). They also turned the song "Live is Life" by Austrian group Opus into "Life is Life," arguably making it a neo-nazi anthem. Laibach covered the Beatles' "Let It Be" album, all songs except the title track. Their "Let It Be" is a laughable burlesque. However, the cover of "Across the Universe" is great!
*Visage covered 2525 as well (as well as that song can be covered!)
