There are several that I like, including Valley Girl, Breakfast Club, Top Gun, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Pretty In Pink, and Cocktail, but I would have to say my favorite is Footloose. From beginning to end, pretty solid.
1. Footloose - Kenny Loggins
2. Let's Hear It For the Boy - Denise Williams
3. Almost Paradise (Love Theme) - Ann Wilson/Mike Reno
4. Holding Out For A Hero - Bonnie Tyler
5. Dancing In The Sheets - Shalamar
6. I'm Free (Heaven Helps The Man) - Kenny Loggins
7. Somebody's Eyes - Karla Bonoff
8. Girl Gets Around, The - Sammy Hagar
9. Never - Moving Pictures

Salvation (New Order, Cabaret Voltaire), Modern Girls, The Last American Virgin, Dogs in Space, Goonies, Something Wild, Streets of Fire, and, of course, any John Hughes movie.
**special mention**
Times Square (1980), a movie about teenage runaways, featured Tim Curry. This is a double album of Punk and New Wave music, the roots of what made '80s music great, including: The Ramones, Gary Numan, XTC, Joe Jackson, The Cure, Lou Reed, Talking Heads, Pretenders, Patti Smith, and others. It also features a couple of numbers by "The Sleaze Sisters," the *punk* band formed by the two runaway girls. 8)

"Valley Girl" has to be the best soundtrack of the 80's. So much good music. "The Plimsoles" A million miles away my favorite.

the heavy metal soundtrack thats already been mentioned. although it's more of a late 70s feel to it.
the akira soundtrack, akira's an anime movie and the soundtrack was awesome, although it really transcends the 80s, another topic altogether.

I would like to concur that Breakfast Club and Valley Girl were great soundtracks. Any movie John Huges did in the 80s deserves a mention. Also, I would like to add Rumble Fish.
It's a great listen. A song by the lead singer of Wall of Voodoo's, Stan Ridgway and the rest are instrumentals peformed by noneother than Stewart Copeland of The Police.

A '90s movie based on '80s music, "The Wedding Singer" soundtracks vol.1 and 2 are good. The movie was toootally lame, though!

And "200 Cigarettes". Though late '70's new wave and early '80's.
