Subject: Nintendo question

Written By: Kirah on 12/31/03 at 09:37 a.m.

Hi.  I'm not sure if this is from the 80s, but I think it is.  I remember my older sister used to have a Nintendo, and it came with a little robot that could be used for a game that came with the NES.  I remember that we could never get it to work, and we could never find any other games that the robot could work with.  If anyone knows what I am talking about, can you please tell me the name of the robot and the purpose of it?  Thanks.

Yeah I remember the robot.  Back in the mid and late 80's, they sold 2 or 3 different versions of the 8-bit Nintendo.

The first came packaged with the NES console and controls, but also included in it were the light gun and the robot you are talking about.  Then they sold pakcage with just the NES console and controls.  But the robot was never popular, most kids thought it was stupid.  Supposedly it was supposed to "play" a video game with you and be your "friend".  But I think it was only designed to play one or two games.  Combine that with fact that kids thought the robot was retarded in the first place and Nintendo decided to scrap the robot.

By 1988 and 1989 Nintendo sold only the console and the light gun.  I remember because my dad bought me a Nintendo in 1986, and we had 3 options, and my dad bought the cheapeset one, (just the console and controls and the free Super Mario game that came with it).  But by 1988 and 1989, the price of Nintendo had gone down, what with Super Nintendo on the horizon anyway, and they only sold the package with the console and light gun.
