Its interesting that no 80's Christmas songs were #1 on Christmas of the corresponding years.
But I did/do like all of the songs listed. :)

The only songs from that list I would even consider decent are Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison and Another Day In Paradise by Phil Collins.

In the UK, having Christmas no1 is such a big prestigious thing. I really don't know if it's the same thing in the US?

Anyway, I'm going to do a UK version of all the number 1's since 1980 on another thread - so look out for it :)

1981 - Physical - Olivia Newton-John  :P

I also found it interesting that no Christmas-themed songs came in at the top spot the week of Christmas.  :)

1980 - Lady - Kenny Rogers  Nothing spectacular.  3

1981 - Physical - Olivia Newton-John  Grrr...hate this one!  1

1982 - Maneater - Hall & Oates  Not bad.  3.5

1983 - Say Say Say - Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson  Good duet.  4

1984 - Like A Virgin - Madonna  3.5

1985 - Say You, Say Me - Lionel Richie  3.5

1986 - Walk Like An Egyptian - The Bangles  I liked this one at first but it quickly lost its appeal on me.  3

1987 - Faith - George Michael  3.5

1988 - Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison  Good power ballad!  4

1989 - Another Day In Paradise - Phil Collins  Good message in this one!  For that I give it a 4.5.

1980 - Lady - Kenny Rogers
Not a terrible song by any means, but lacks something...perhaps Kenny was the wrong guy for it...3

1981 - Physical - Olivia Newton-John
A dreadfully lame effort from Livvy...hasn't dated well...2

1982 - Maneater - Hall & Oates
Bass riff swiped from an old Motown song, but not terribly bad...4

1983 - Say Say Say - Macca & Jacko
Never really appealed that much...seems like they both played it too 'safe'...mind you, miles better than their other effort 'The Girl Is Mine', before they both fell out...3

1984 - Like A Virgin - Madonna
Defining 80's moment as Madge went on the rampage from hereon...fine stuff and one of her better efforts...4

1985 - Say You Say Me - Lionel Richie
Very odd...mostly dirge-like ballad which, for some unexplicable reason, speeds up for about 20 seconds somewhere! Lionel's done better...2

1986 - Walk Like An Egyptian - Bangles
Agree with CF, was okay for its time, but sounds terribly dated now...3

1987 - Faith - George Michael
When 'designer stubble' was all the rage! Harmless piece of fluff from the lavatory attendant...3

1988 - Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison
Change of pace for this big-haired lot...a fair effort, but not spellbinding...3

1989 - Another Day In Paradise - Phil Collins
Fine song with thoughtful subject matter...trouble was, after this every PC song tended to sound exactly like the last! 4
