Subject: PC emulators
Well,
Like me, I am sure some of you have checked out the various 80's emulators you can run on your PC
(spectrum 48, commodore 64, amiga etc)
Any favourites?
It'd be great if someone wrote a fully integrated one.
I tend to find the screen is too small, or the game runs too fast.

I have a Spectrum, Megadrive, Nintendo and a Super Nintendo emulator - they are great for a nostalgic person like me.
I prefer my Super Nintendo and Spectrum emulators as I have tons of games for them.

Mine is the PC Atari 800 emulator. IMHO one of the best home computers in its time. If Atari didn't have their heads up their butts, it would have easily beat out the commodore 64. Runners up: The Commodore 64 emulator, MAME32, and Stella (atari 2600).

What exactly is an emulator?

It's loads up the roms (games) so you can then play. Some emulators can only be used in dos (not my cup of tea - don't know any commands for those), & others have GUI.

Where can you get them? Is it a program or an actual piece of hardware?

They're programs. You can find them by doing a Google search (probably be best if ya enter each separate). Here's a couple links for my favorite Mame32:
