Subject: XTC underrated?

Written By: Conker on 11/27/03 at 05:02 a.m.

The other day while killing time in the local Record (do they still call them that?) store I picked up XTC's Fossil Fuel (Grt Hit package).
It brought me back to the early 80's.
Were they one of the most underrated bands of the period?
Great lyrics, social comment that is still relevant, what more can I say.

I think so! XTC had some great songs, and of course "Dear God" is, lyrically, one of the best songs ever!! Just as relevant now as it ever was.

Absolutely Vile

And all the world is football shaped...

I like XTC. 'Dear God' is a scathing attack on religion. I also like 'Senses working overtime' and 'Making plans for Nigel'.

I haven't heard that song, Speedbird. You've reminded me of another one. I haven't heard it much but it could be a grower - Sgt Rock is going to help me.

I actually consider them as one of the greatest bands from the 1980's. And I like all  of the songs mentioned.
Including "Generals & Majors", which I heard as one of the Top 20 Greatest Songs of 1989 from my local radio station's 20th year thing last year.  :)

XTC is one of my favorite groups, Melt the Guns, Just Waiting for the Weekend, Oranges Lemons, the Man Who Murdered Love, my faves go on and on.  One can detect strains from early Beatles, Steely Dan in their music.  I love XTC!
