Subject: Au Coton

Written By: Dignme1 on 10/15/03 at 08:50 a.m.

The pastel sweatshirt superstore!
My friends and I can not agree, so we need some expertise in this area!
How do you pronounce Au Coton?

We are looking for as much feedback as possible.  This is a riveting debate that keeps coming up in our discussions.  Please help us settle the madness!

Thanks,
Dignme1

Hey something for those of us with a bilingual backround.

Au = Oh
Coton = Caught tone
This would be the easiest way to explain it to an English speaker.
It means 'of cotton' by the way.

I LOVED Au Coton.  In fact they JUST closed them down here recently.  Until their last day I bought all my Tshirts there!

Aqua Tonic...they sold so much gear that had that written across the front.  I must have had 10 sweatshirts w/that logo...probably still do at the back of my closet!!

No really related to this topic, but are you from Canada? I am.  I'm trying to develop my French, and I was wondering, wouldn't the "tone" actually be more like "toe" followed by the nasal n sound?

I sure would but I wasn't sure how I would explain it as well as you did.

Keep working on the french it always helps in certain parts of the great white north.

I know Au Coton is supposed to be pronounced like "Oh Coat-tone" but I always just said "Oh Cotton." It was just easier! :D (And I did really well in French too!)

Since we're on clothing shops of the eighties, does anyone remember Benetton and Beaver Canoe? I'd say Roots, too, but I think they still exist.

I do believe you can still get Beaver Canoe.  I'm almost positve last year they had some gear in the Sears Wishbook.  Beaver Canoe was a Roots company too I do believe.  I still have all my Beaver Canooe and Roots sweatshirts.

I had a 30th 80's themed bday party for my best friend in March and I couldn't believe ALL the stuff I had...neither could my boyfriend or anyone else!  I still had my Rubix Cube, Cabbage Patch Kids, Roots/Beaver Canoe sweatshirts, stuffed Smurf, Alf & Garfield, silly putty, highschool gym strip, a jacket from the 88 Olympics and of course all my Heavy Metal posters and teen heartthrob pinups!!  I managed to find a brand new Choose Life/Go-Go Tshirt online and neon socks and spandex 3/4 pants...needless to say my g/f looked hillarious!!  It was a blast!!
