I thought Tears For Fears summed her up best in "Sowing the seeds of love".....

POLITICIAN GRANNIE WITH YOUR HIGH IDEALS
HAVE YOU NO IDEA HOW THE MAJORITY FEELS?
SO WITHOUT LOVE AND A PROMISED LAND
WE´RE FOOLS TO THE RULES OF A GOVERNMENT PLAN
KICK OUT THE STYLE: BRING BACK THE JAM

And you have to agree with the last line!  ;D  Well, you don't, but I DO  8)

Bobby!

She was married to Dennis Thatcher not Michael Foot (who was once leader of the Labour party).  Mind you they do look a bit alike I suppose.  Same scruffy dress sense

Pink Floyd also has some nasty lyrics about Thatcher in Pigs (Three Different Ones)

Bus stop rat bag, ha ha charade you are...
You f**ked up old hag, ha ha charade you are...
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass...
You're nearly a good laugh, almost worth a quick grin..
You like the feel of steel..
You're hot stuff with a hat pin, and good fun with a hand gun..
You're nearly a good laugh, You're nearly a good laugh...
But you're really a cry......

You got that right disco king.

I remember my brother playing a song at the time with the lyrics 'Bird's put the turd in custard but who put the s**t in number 10?'

Can't for the life of me remember who it's by though.  Anyone?

As usual, liberals show the epitome of class and tolerance.  How much hatred you have.  Oh gee, those are the very things you say you are so concerned about!    ::)

which liberal would you be talking about here then?  I don't recall ever saying I was a liberal (or a Liberal which I think is probably different).

I was asking who sang a song not that I agreed with the sympathies of it.  That said I was not a fan of Thatcher when she was in power.  Were you living in Britain at the time?  If so I think you can comment on this topic, if not then you cannot know what she was like.

Hiya Karen

I had the misfortune to live there during the end of her reign.
I was there the day she said "let them wear spencers" when people complained that the elderly couldnt afford heating and were dieing from the cold.

Plenty of people filled me in on the destruction of her early years.

I was there 88 - 91.

Delightful woman - everyone should have her as a leader ;)

NOT !!

I'm probably going to sound stupid again but do we have 'liberals' as such in Britain? I know there is the Liberal Democrats but they really are a party looking in so to speak and do not seem to have any real influence in British politics.

To add, Rebel, Margaret Thatcher was leader of the Conservative party and was not 'Liberal'.

Bobby

I don't think the word liberal has the same meaning here in the UK as it does in, say, USA.  But, given that it means having political views that favour progress and reform then I would say that all Liberal Democrats are liberals but some other political people are as well.

Personally I agree with some Lib Dem policies and most Labour policies but since the Lib Dems will almost certainly never be elected to power why waste my vote?

I'm not too sure Conservatives will be getting a look in either to be honest. Ian Duncan Smith doesn't look credible enough to be Prime Minister.

That's the thing with this whole 'was Thatcher good for Britain' debate. Despite the fact many people despised Thatcher & the way she ruthlessly sold off nationalised industries to foreign asset-strippers, her replacements never displayed any backbone when dealing with the UK economy. Lacklustre subsequent Tory leaders & the fear of a return to Maggies' quasi-fascist era have led us to the 'pretty pass' we're currently at in the UK- i.e. the only left-wing alternative (Labour) moving accross to the centre-right to win the election, making lots of promises that have not yet been fulfilled. In fact, one of the only promises they have fulfilled is de-regulating censorship on pornography- and this only after a prominent minister was caught importing hardcore porn from Holland. Wouldn't have happened in Maggies' day- she was definitely a fan of 'cronyism', but nowhere near to the extent of the current incumbents- the guy would have been sacked, rather than the law changing.
As for IDS, good orator with nothing to say. Until he changes his initials to less resemble a common stomach ailment, I fear he will continue to lack the credibility even moderately good policies would lend him. ;D
