Subject: Opus to return to comics. Comics to be funny again

I was thinking about this a couple weeks ago for some reason, about how cool it would be if Berkley Breathed would do a Sunday strip again.. I subscribed to the Boston Globe for about a month, and found nothing worth reading in the funnies section anymore..

now if they can just get Calvin & Hobbes and the Far Side back, the Sunday paper might be worth reading again

'The Far Side' by Gary Larson was one of the funniest yet unsettling things I read when I was a teenager.

I remember a family driving in a car steaming down a mountain with a child in the back with a smile on his face. The caption read 'The boy who cried 'No Brakes'' - Hilarious.

Calvin and Hobbes dealt with themes on innocence and childhood fantasy. Quite poignant in places.

Both strips were excellent for different reasons.

The newspaper decides which comic strips will appear.  It works kinda like television syndication.  You can still read Ziggy daily at this website:  http://www.ucomics.com/ziggy/index.phtml where you can also sign up to receive Ziggys in your daily e-mail.  :)

The question is: can Berkley Breathed be funny again.

After a few short years, Bloom County went downhill faster than that character in the wheelchair, IMHO.

Bloom County was hilarious. I have a book called Billy And The Boingers which mostly centres around a rock group some of the characters were in, including Bill The Cat. Steve Dallas was either their singer or manager, I'm not sure. Anyway, it came with a square flexidisc of a couple of Billy And The Boingers songs, one of which was called "I'm A Boinger." I don't remember the other one. The record, unfortunately, went missing. :(

Outland was OK, but not quite as funny as Bloom County. I still read it, and would love to see Opus, Bill The Cat, et al come back. That would be really cool. :)
