Subject: Tron.

Haha.. I just watched "Tron" tonight.. I haven't seen that in almost 20 years... I was 14 at the time. Great movie.. still is, I think. I still think the computer effects are superb and I didn't realize how many popular actors were in it. Maybe i'm just nostalgic but I thought it was a good story too. :)

This will always be a cool movie to me. Evidently we're not the only ones who think this because they're coming out with a PC version of this game soon!!! :D 8) The signs are already up at Wal-Mart. ;)

I actually enjoyed Tron very much. I saw it 3 times in the theatre, and was spellbound by it. The computer animation was so crisp compared to traditional animation.
And the cast! Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, Cindy Morgan, David Warner, Barnard Hughes, Peter Jurasik. A lot of the actors went on to do such shows as Babylon 5, Andromeda, and the Star Trek shows.
This game also spawned several video games. There was the 4-in-1 game, the "Disks Of Tron", and several different ones for home computers and home game systems.
Probably the most memorable are the numerous clones of the "Light Bike" game. Simple, but very hard to play.
This movie really showed us how movies would be made in the future. ANd the animation was not surpassed until "THe Last Starfighter", with it's first time use of computer animation of things in a "real world" setting.

One side note:
There have been rumors for 4 years now that Pixar is seriously considering a remake of Tron!
Steve Jobs is a major mover behind this project. And the Tron 2.0 game is partially a test to see how popular it may be.
Maybe this time, by putting it under the Touchstone label, it might get the attention it deserves. I know having it released as a Disney movie was a constriction for the original one.

A remake of Tron.. that would be cool.
If memory serves me correct, I believe Tron was the first movie with computer generated special effects. Approximately 15% of it is nothing but CG (??) it made the news back in the day! And when "The Last Starfighter" came out it was the most computer animated movie (75% ??) for many years to come.
I too blew quite a few precious quarters at the arcade playing that game. While watching the movie I kept having flashbacks about it! :D
One thing, i'm a big "South Park" fan and there's an episode on there with Kyle going to Jew Scouts when Moses makes an appearance. I thought the Moses character looked familiar and when I saw Tron I realized it was an exact copy of the MasterControl program from Tron! South Park editors must be Tron fans too! ;D

I love the coin-op too. It is so killer with that black light in the front. The toys and movie were sweet too.
