Subject: 80s instrumental song
Does anybody remember any 80s songs that were instrumentals(i Think ) and had a saxophone as the lead instrument. Possibly a song from a movie. I can only think of you belong to the city by Glen Frey but that has words. I think the song I'm thinking of is an instrumental.

You might be thinking about "Love Theme" from the St. Elmo's Fire soundtrack, an instrumental with a saxophone lead.

Are you thinking of "Songbird", a very mellow instrumental piece released in the late 80s?

I think there may have been an all instrumental version of "You Belong To The City." Another 80's instrumental that I can think of right now is "Axel F."

If the song had an up-tempo, you may be thinking of "One Step Beyond" by Madness.

Tina Turner's "One Of The Living" (from the mid-80's) is not an instrumental, but it had a long saxaphone lead. It was also featured in the movie "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome". Could this be the song you're looking for?
Subject: Re: 80s instrumental song
So far none of these songs were the song I'm thinking of. Thanks anyways. :)

You'are not thinking of "Lilly Was Here" are you?
It is a movie and the main Theme is "Lilly Was Here" by Dave A Stewart (of the Eurothimics) and Candy Dulfer (Alto Sax Player).
Hope this helps.

could you be talking about an 80's song that has a saxophone solo? It is heard on "Pretty in Pink", however, it's not on the soundtrack. It only plays for a few seconds. A guy sings it for about 2 and 1/2 minutes and then the saxophone solo comes in. I'm looking for it as well, I'll keep you posted if I find out what it is.

Still havent heard the song yet. I hear it on tv sometimes for one of those compilation cd's. I'm pretty sure it's not Kenny G. I think it was a one hit wonder type song. I also think it was from some movie.

I was going to say it might have been the fabulous JAN HAMMER, who made spectacular instrumentals back in early 80's, but I don't think they used saxophones that much.... ???
Subject: Re: 80s instrumental song
Oh! I have to say I loved the theme from St. Elmo's Fire (I also thought Rob Lowe was such a babe! :P) and the other theme from Miami Vice.
That's all I have to say! :)

I'm sorry. I was wrong. The song I was thinking of was Gerry Rafferty singing Baker Street. I wonder if this was in a movie? I'm just glad I finally found it out.

There was a song that used saxophones called 'Garden Party' by a group called Mezzoforte. It hit the UK charts and was classed as Jazz Fusion. It's a nice song if you haven't heard it already.
It's one of the few songs that haven't been mentioned here.

Wierd. I was looking for the same song just a month or two ago. I heard it on a simpsons episode and it sparked a memory. When I was reading the top of the msg, I said baker street immediately :) If only I had seen the post sooner!! :)

LOL
When I saw Angela's question, I knew exactly which song she meant. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember the name or artist either!
And then last week after she posted the answer, I heard it on the radio! Some help :)
